Migrant arrests aboard freight trains soared 60% since October as border agents caught more stowaways clinging to rail cars to try to illegally reach the US

U.S. Custom and Border Protection stats released Monday shows a 60% increase in migrants arrested for illegally entering the country on freight trains

CBP officers in El Paso, Texas, arrested 292 undocumented migrants crossing from Mexico since the start of fiscal year 2021

CBP agents detained 181 individuals trying to cross the border via train during the same time period last year

Approximately 6,000 train cars cross from Mexico to El Paso each month and agents use x-ray equipment and sniffer dogs to examine cargo

There were only 50 apprehensions of migrants illegally entering the country on freight trains in fiscal year 2019 and 555 in fiscal year 2020
