Just had this conversation with my son's school today. Logic and reason were useless. The school told me:
- 14% of all school-age children in America were currently infected with Covid.
- The current surge in cases is exclusively in unvaccinated people.
- The reason the current death rate is so low compared to the number of cases is because the vaccines are preventing people from dying.
- We as parents shouldn't complain because they aren't requiring the students to be vaccinated (yet).
On that last point, the only reason they haven't done so already is because the FDA has not yet given Emergency Authorization for children under 12. Once they do, I am certain the school will require it.
Here are the three criteria we were given that determine their policy on masks going forward:
- Infection rate in Fulton County. (No threshold number provided).
- Recommendation of a panel of four medical professionals, one of whom works for the CDC.
- Fear.
When we pointed out that Item 3 was irrational, we were told that our decision not to get our (formerly autistic) son vaccinated was irrational.
My anger is not going to dissipate over this for a very long time.
