The New York Times reported last night that Andrew Cuomo got paid $4 million for his auto-hagiography, American Crisis, but the scandal involved how the book got produced. The governor put his staff to work in editing the book — staff paid by New York taxpayers to do it gratis, in another example of Cuomo’s conversion of public resources for private gain.

    Sources said the governor landed the deal with publisher Crown for his memoir 'American Crisis: Leadership Lessons from the COVID-19 Pandemic'
    The New York Times obtained emails about the book and an early draft
    It revealed Cuomo was writing the book in June and July - close to the release of the state's July 6 report on COVID-19 nursing home deaths
    Cuomo's office altered the 9,844 death total in the first draft of the report to release a lower number of 6,432 to the public
    Cuomo's office denies any tie between the release of data and the memoir
    Cuomo also took aim at NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio in an early draft of the book in a three-page long rant about his longtime foe which was cut from the final version
    The governor released his book on October 13, praising his own leadership during the COVID-19 crisis
    Cuomo is now facing investigations into allegations he sexually harassed multiple women and into the COVID-19 nursing home deaths scandal
