Congrats Bryce Harper! God bless you! I hope and pray this bolds well for the NL MVP voting!  I'm happy the Cubs, Dodgers, Yankees, and Mets held their wallets and passed on him three years ago. He has been just a joy to watch.  He is the type of guy who you tell your grandkids. At Cooperstown decades from now, I watched him play!

And congrats ,Shohei Otani! He deserves to win as well the Al MVP! I bought the MLB tv subscription to watch this man hit and one week. He was hitting homers all week. He put up monster numbers without much support. All he had was Jared Walsh.

That damn Home Run Derby messed up Ohtani for the rest of the season.

Respectfully disagree.

He's at, a level as a HOF player and an age where 1 years contracts are in his favor.

Any half dozen or so teams who "...missed it by 'that' much" would venture into a deal.

That Yankee Stadium short right field porch is beckoning.

 :2popcorn:

But Freddie is looking for a LOOONG term deal around 35 per.  Think Pujols.  Just not worth it at 32 years old ... his skills will decline soon.  Yank fans in particular would have eaten him alive for the disappearing act he did a couple of years ago, although he did make up for it recently.

Yes, it did, but he is exceptional two-way talent, and that derby was loads of fun! I think everyone there wanted to see him win! He needs some protection. Mike Trout has to stay healthy. So they don't walk him! And Arte Moreno needs to give him 14 years 400 million! Those Angels fans are blessed to have him playing in beautiful Anaheim, California!

Too bad Freddie Freeman is skipping town right after the celebration.  He could have spent his entire HOF career with one team, like Chipper Jones, and been well-compensated (albeit not at the astronomical price he is demanding).  His salary is liable to become an albatross wherever he goes, and the fans will not be forgiving.

I'd love for us to sign him and trade Rhys Hoskins, possibly for some relievers!  I could see Bryce Harper behind the scenes lobbying for him to come to play for us, and Freddie has been a generous person to my fellow Phillies fans. When he did not have to, be if he helps us win and plays, hard we will forgive his over-the-hill years!

The Yankees need to go and sign freeman. They lost to Boston in the playoffs. I would figure people were not happy about that if the boss remained alive. He'd go right over the luxury tax, and I couldn't blame him.

Congrats to Bryce Harper and Zack Wheeler! for being named finalists for both the CY Young and MVP awards! I recall when we signed both players. Haters said we overspent that Bryce was overrated. And the Mets said we got fleeced Paying Zack the money. Everyone else was declaring he could make the jump like Cole did with the Astros. And he did! Zack told the press he wanted to win a CY Young in February 2020 now he is a finalist this year! And congrats to the best catcher in baseball J.T. Realmuto! for being selected as a finalist for a Silver Slugger award in the National League alongside teammate Bryce Harper!

And congrats Zack Wheeler and. To J.T., on the golden glove finalist selection! I hope and pray all of the fighting Phils players do run away with this!

Congrats Bryce Harper! I almost fell off my chair when they compared his numbers with Hank Aaron! Bryce is in some great company! He had just an insane year list of outfielders who had scored 100 runs, 40 doubles, 35 homers, and 100 walks Babe Ruth, Barry Bonds, Stan Musial, and Bryce Harper! God blessed him!

Congrats, Bryce Harper, on the sliver slugger! If he doesn't win the NL MVP, I'm going to say it was voter fraud!  He put the city of Philly on his back almost got us into the playoffs so close!

When Bryce Harper signed here three seasons ago, they called him the most overrated player in baseball, and Washington fans said Juan Soto was better than him. I don't want to hear them saying that again Bryce has won two MVPs! And Sotto can't win one!  Congrats, Bryce  Harper! God bless Harper and all who voted for him! He deserved it! The face of baseball put Philly on his back and almost got us into the playoffs! And is on track to smash over 700 homers if he stays healthy over the next ten years!

Bryce has been worth the investment thus far, but let's see about the next 10 seasons.  His contract is somewhat frontloaded, so that will help the franchise when he transitions into the late 30s.

Never thought that outlawing free speech in this country would ever be anything more than a dystopian political thriller novel/movie.

Shit, we are seeing it happen before our eyes in real time.

Juan Soto says he was offered 13-year, $350M extension by Washington Nationals before MLB lockout

The Washington Nationals offered a 13-year, $350 million extension to outfielder Juan Soto before the current lockout by Major League Baseball, he confirmed to ESPN's Enrique Rojas on Wednesday.

The offer, made before the work stoppage, was intended to start this season and did not include deferred money, a Nationals source told ESPN. Had it materialized, the 23-year-old would have earned an average salary of almost $27 million until 2034, when he will turn 36.

"Yes, they made me an offer a few months ago, before the lockout," Soto said. "But right now, my agents and I think the best option is to go year by year and wait for free agency. My agent, Scott Boras, has control over the situation."

Soto is eligible for free agency after the 2024 season.

Right?  Did you see the Jomboy breakdown where he ran three different angles simultaneously?

To borrow from Jackie Chiles, it was outrageous, egregious, and preposterous.

Payback for the unwoke Braves winning the World Series.  I expect a lot more of that.

btw, can you imagine Earl Weaver wearing a stupid mask while arguing with an umpire?  The whole point is to let the spit fly.

Houston Astros to blame for MLB lockout, not commish

Don’t waste your time blaming MLB commissioner Ron Manfred for this lockout, and never side with the people he represents.

This lockout didn’t start with Manfred telling the owners what to do. This started with a specific group of high-level baseball people telling Manfred it was time to restructure MLB’s expense sheet.

According to people familiar with this situation, this started years ago when then Houston Astros GM Jeff Luhnow and current owner Jim Crane...
