Matt Gaetz under investigation for alleged sexual relations with 17-year-old: report

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), a close ally of former President Trump, is under investigation by the Department of Justice (DOJ) over an alleged sexual relationship he had with a 17-year-old girl, according to The New York Times.

Investigators are examining whether the congressman has violated federal sex trafficking laws by paying for the girl to travel with him, sources told the Times.

The sources said the probe was opened under former Attorney General William Barr in the final months of the Trump administration and that senior DOJ officials in Washington, D.C., were alerted to the existence of the investigation.

The examination of the 38-year-old congressman’s alleged personal relationship is reportedly part of a larger probe into Gaetz’s political ally and former local Florida tax collector Joel Greenberg, who faces charges of sex trafficking a child and providing payment to people, including at least one female minor, in exchange for sex.

A photo posted to Twitter in 2019 showed Greenberg, who has since resigned from his Seminole County post, visiting the White House with Gaetz.

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) says that the allegations of sexual misconduct against him are false.

“The allegations against me are as searing as they are false," Gaetz told Axios in a phone interview. "I believe that there are people at the Department of Justice who are trying to criminalize my sexual conduct, you know when I was a single guy.”

The statement comes after The New York Times reported that the Justice Department is investigating whether he had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old and paid for her to travel with him.

The newspaper noted that the investigation was opened during former President Trump’s administration. Given his profile as a staunch Trump ally, senior officials within the Department were notified of the investigation.

Gaetz told Axios that he and his father had been working with the FBI for weeks on the case, and that the DOJ told his lawyers “I was not a target but a subject of an investigation regarding sexual conduct with women."

Rep. Matt Gaetz named the former Justice Department official he claims is trying to extort $25 million from his family.

David McGee, an attorney with Beggs & Lane, is the man the Florida Republican named during an appearance Tuesday evening on Tucker Carlson's Fox News show in which he responded to reports that he is under federal investigation over a former relationship.

McGee served for six years as the first assistant at the U.S. Attorney’s Office and for seven years as the lead attorney for a Justice Department's Organized Crime Task Force, according to his biography on the website of his law firm, which is based in Pensacola, Florida.

Neither McGee nor Beggs & Lane immediately returned the Washington Examiner's requests for comment.

The New York Times first reported Gaetz, 38, is being looked at as part of a broader investigation into local Florida official Joel Greenberg, a political ally who was indicted last summer on an array of charges, including sex trafficking of a minor and financially supporting people in exchange for sex, at least one of whom was an underage girl.

Greenberg, who was Seminole County tax collector, pleaded not guilty to all charges and was jailed this month for violating the terms of his bail. He is set for a court date in Orlando in June.

The Florida Republican told Carlson that the 17-year-old in question "doesn't exist" and "I have not had a relationship with a 17-year-old; that is totally false."

"Providing for flights and hotel rooms for people that you’re dating who are of legal age is not a crime," he added. Gaetz repeatedly demanded the FBI and DOJ "release the audio recordings" that will "prove his innocence."

“Tonight, I am demanding that the Department of Justice and the FBI release the audio recordings that were made under their supervision and at their direction, which will prove my innocence and that will show these allegations aren’t true, they’re merely intended to try to bleed my family out of money," he said.

And once again, false info (or just flat out lies). Roy also denied it occurred. Also there was no evidence it was anything other than lies. Years later, still NO proof it was anything other than lies. Next year there will no proof, and the year after that, because it was all bunk.

Just like the accusations of being banned at the mall were proven false, Just like the faked signature inscription. All that was proven was the fellow that orchrasted a lot of it was found guilty of owning his wife a lot of money in a divorce (Moore was the judge)... and that his gay brother worked for the Wapo... and that he didn't like Roy Moore because Moore didn't condone gay marriages. Ginsberg (SCOTUS) married him before it was legalized before a court she stood on where the issue was not decided.

On Tuesday afternoon, the New York Times published a thin piece that made the stunning assertion that, during the Trump administration, the Justice Department opened an inquiry into a claim that Rep. Matt Gaetz (R.FL) had a sexual relationship with an underage girl. Gaetz responded by denying the allegation and then making his own, even more shocking assertion: Gaetz says that a former Justice Department official tried to extort money from his family, that the local FBI was investigating the claim, and that this Times report is an attempt by the Deep State to protect that official.

Wow! So, let me break all of this out.

Second, allegedly the NYT leaked the story the day before the money was to be wired to McGee which, as anyone who watches crime dramas know, would have been the point arrests would've been made. Supposedly McGee has connections within the current DOJ.

Third, Gaetz claims the FBI has recorded evidence proving his innocence and is calling for it to be released.
