Asteroid dust found at Chicxulub Crater confirms dinosaur doomsday theory

Some 66 million years ago, a city-size asteroid barreled through Earth’s atmosphere and slammed into the shallow waters off the Yucatán Peninsula in the Gulf of Mexico.

The cosmic artillery strike gouged a 125-mile-wide (200 km) crater in Earth surface, lofting plumes of vaporized rock and debris into the air that globally blocked out views of the Sun for years or decades.

After the initial blast, the reduced sunlight caused Earth’s surface temperature to plummet by as much as 50 degrees Fahrenheit (28 degrees Celsius), aiding in a mass extinction that killed 75 percent of life on Earth.
But eventually, the dust settled

Fast forward to the 1980s, and scientists uncovered traces of asteroid dust, finding it scattered around the globe within the same geological layer that corresponds to the dinosaurs’ extinction.

In the following decade, Chicxulub Crater was discovered in the Gulf of Mexico. And because the crater appeared to be the same age as the global rock layer enriched with asteroid dust, researchers were fairly certain they had the story of the dinosaurs’ demise figured out.

Well, actually the more comprehensive theory is that the eruption of the Deccan trapps in India over the course of a few million years had spewed enough crap into the air to put the greased skids under the great dinosaurs, and the asteroidal impact was merely the coup de grace.

And the asteroid theory had been confirmed long before by the consistent presence of iridium at the K-T boundary.

Triggering of the largest Deccan eruptions by the Chicxulub impact
http://eprints.esc.cam.ac.uk/3289/1/Gibson%20bul%20gsa.pdf

...Seismic modeling of the ground motion due to the Chicxulub impact suggests that the impact could have generated seismic energy densities of order 0.1–1.0 J/m3  throughout the upper ~200 km of Earth’s mantle, suffi cient to trigger volcanic eruptions worldwide based upon comparison with historical examples. Triggering may have been caused by a transient increase in the effective permeability of the existing deep magmatic system beneath the Deccan province, or mantle plume “head.”

It is therefore reasonable to hypothesize that the Chicxulub impact might have triggered the enormous Poladpur, Ambenali, and Mahabaleshwar (Wai Subgroup) lava fl ows, which together may account for >70% of the Deccan Traps main-stage eruptions....

It wasn't like that at all:
