Senate passes $1.9 trillion COVID aid bill after marathon session

Mary Kay Linge   |   March 6, 2021   |   12:34pm

The Senate on Saturday passed President Biden’s $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief bill on a party-line vote, ending a marathon session lasting nearly 26 hours.

The measure passed 50-49 in the evenly divided chamber due to the absence of one Republican, Alaska Sen. Dan Sullivan, who flew home Friday after the death of his father-in-law.

Sullivan’s departure meant there was no need for Vice President Kamala Harris to cast a tie-breaker vote to gain the Democratic victory.

“This Senate has never spent $2 trillion dollars in a more haphazard way,” Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said afterwards. “Voters picked a president who promised unity and bipartisanship, but the Democrats have passed what they call the most progressive legislation in a generation on a razor-thin margin.”

Democrats shot down more than a dozen last-minute GOP amendments Saturday to get to that point — a process that significantly delayed the bill’s ultimate passage and contributed to the 26-hour session that began before noon Friday.

Only a dozen?  This was their chance to filibuster.  And they gave up after only one day.  They could have offered the entire 2020 budget as an amendment with a clause added at the end nullifying its entirety.  The Senator offering it would by rule have to read out loud the amendment in its entirety (which would take about a week).  And after it got voted down, the next Senator changes a word or two and offers the new amendment, again having to read it in its entirety.  Another week gone.

But no.  Republicans are bleep.  They didn't want to lose their Saturday and Sunday off.  So they caved.  And now Democrats get $1.9 trillion to spend in 2024 and 2028, ensuring election victories in both those years.   And why?  Because Republicans have sold us out.

I guess no filibuster because they called this budget reconciliation?

The flip side of that is that no amendment can be turned down.  Any amendment offered has to be read out loud by the person offering it.  That is their filibuster in the truest sense of the word.  They have to get up there and talk, like a filibuster is supposed to be done.

Republicans have allowed Democrats to be lazy over the years.  When in the minority, Democrats only had to threaten one.  A single cloture vote, and Republicans would cave.  No longer did Democrats have to give the long speeches like they did when they fought against Civil Rights legislation.  So yes, this one actually required some work on the Republican side.  But they were simply too damn lazy to fight for us.  Bastards!

The American Rescue Plan has PASSED.

    Democrats promised:

    Shots in people’s arms
    Money in people’s pockets
    Children in schools
    Workers in jobs

We’re following through on that promise.

This was passed via the reconciliation process.
A filibuster wasn't possible, all that was required is a majority vote.
A done deal from the get-go.

We'd better be prepared for "more of this".
A LOT MORE...

Not true.  Republicans could have tied this up for the next two years by proposing an endless stream of amendments.  And no cloture vote could have blocked it.  But tat would have required Republican Senators actually doing work for their quarter million dollar salaries and honoring their commitments to the American voters, neither of which they were willing to do.  And now, almost $2 trillion of special interest money will be flowing into Dem campaign coffers in 2024 and 2028.  Because Republicans are idiots.

Democommies are one step closer to the complete destruction of this republic.  The day will come when we do not recover from their actions, and we are permanently on our knees to be welcomed into the globalist slave planet they seek.

Patriotic Americans need to start thinking revolution once more.

I haven't read the entire bill, but I heard it contained money for "minority farm/ranch owners" to pay off their debts up to 120% of what they owe.  Talk about racist....ughhhhh.
