LA sheriff's office gets warrant for 'black box' in Tiger Woods SUV
By John Bowden - 03/03/21 12:01 PM EST The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department executed a search warrant on Tuesday to obtain the "black box" recording device from the vehicle golfer Tiger Woods was driving on the night of his crash last week.
A spokeswoman for the department said no information about what the black box had recorded was immediately available.
"Traffic collision investigators are continuing the investigation into the cause of the collision involving Mr. Woods," Deputy Trina Schrader said. "On March 1, 2021, they executed a search warrant to retrieve data from the vehicles 'black box.' At this time, there is no additional information regarding the recovered data."
In a separate comment to USA Today, the department characterized the warrant as routine.
"We're trying to determine if a crime was committed," Deputy John Schloegl said, according to the newspaper. "If somebody is involved in a traffic collision, we've got to reconstruct the traffic collision, if there was any reckless driving, if somebody was on their cellphone or something like that. We determine if there was a crime. If there was no crime, we close out the case, and it was a regular traffic collision."
