Greenfield: What We Don’t Talk About When We Talk About Gun Control
Feb. 12, 2021
Daniel Greefield
Quote
A social ill takes place on three levels: the object level, the individual level, and the social level.

Take alcoholism. There’s the object, alcohol. There’s the choice that the individual makes to drink the alcohol. And, finally, there’s the social problems that can be blamed for widespread alcoholism.

The gun control movement operates in the same object-oriented space of the prohibitionist movement. For prohibitionists, the problem was gin. For the gun control movement, it’s all about the guns. Get rid of the gin and the guns, and the underlying problem goes away without having to do anything else.

While the old prohibitionism of sin substances, liquor, drugs, and pornography has been ridiculed and its legal infrastructure dismantled, the obsessive certainty that guns are inherently corrupting holds sway. The lefty media insists that the only solution to gun violence is prohibitionism and more prohibitionism.

Yet the argument for blaming guns is much weaker than the one for blaming drugs or alcohol.  ...

Guns do kill people in the same purely mechanistic sense in which alcohol, drugs, or rat poison do. But guns are a means, not a motive. They don’t explain why gun violence happens, only how it happens.

Above the object level is the individual level. Guns don’t really kill people; killers do.

Tackling a social ill at the human level explores the moral and mental state of the individual.  ...

What the media refuse to talk about when discussing gun confiscation is the underlying goal behind the facade of the movement.

The Party of Murdered Babies cannot credibly claim to give a crap about human life.  So their argument about lives saved is false on it's face.

The Party of Racism, though, has a historical record of being afraid of black people with guns.   So part of the motivation of the gun grabbers is their inherent racism.

The Party of Totalitarianism has a historic record of opposition to the government established by the Constitution.  The primary reason for the Second Amendment was not hunting rights or personal self-defense.   The Second Amendment exists to ensure the people have a final arbiter against tyranny in their homes, easy to reach.

The Party of Totalitarianism has just succeeded in blatantly stealing a US presidential election.   Is it any wonder their first moves include more gun restrictions?

Let's see how Manchin votes.
The GOP is not the party leadership.  The GOP is the party MEMBERSHIP.   The members need to kick the leaders out if they leaders are going the wrong way.  No coddling allowed.

It's false on its face ANYHOO... The only time it was measured something close to half a million direct confrontations where a firearm prevented evil in self defense (in that single year).

There's liars, damn liars, and statistics... Any deaths by firearms pales to insignificance.
