Would Join Trump If He Started a New Party
Rusty Weiss Rusty Weiss Follow on Twitter February 8, 2021

In a blow to the establishment GOP, a new Hill-HarrisX poll shows an overwhelming percentage of Republican voters would join a new political party established by former President Donald Trump.

The survey asked how likely voters would be to join a Trump-led party.

64 percent of Republican voters said they would be likely to cross over, with half of those saying they would be “very likely” to join.

The survey also found that a surprising chunk of independent voters (28 percent) and Democrats (15 percent) said they would sign up for a third party formed by Trump.

Let's put a hypothetical scenario in play here.  Disgruntled GOP voters form a new party...one that they hope won't stab them in the back like the GOP routinely does.  2024 rolls around...and Biden has so fubared things in America that people are desperate for "change".  So what does the good ole GOP do?  They nominate Mitt Romney (again) as their prince.  What does most of the former GOP voters do to show their disdain of Mitt?  Do the math.

I get the splitting of the vote factor.  But hell, what difference would it be if most of those disgruntled voters just stay home and don't vote for the next RINO the GOP presents for defeat?  They might as well vote 3rd party.   At least it would be doing 'something' ...other than not voting.

And just think....  these numbers were probably before the Cheney-Greene debacle, which by the way sealed the deal for me to leave the GOP.   The entire leadership establishment of McConnell, McCarthy, and others better be taking note.  They're party is crumbling before their eyes.

Establishment GOP has gone deaf  to what the rank and file conservatives want and need from their political representation.  If they can't do the job and fight, we can go elsewhere for leadership. Even if it means turning the GOP into the Whigs.

I wonder what would happen if we had the same question for a poll.

I think all but about 5 of our most fervent NT"s would have no problem with a conservative based 3rd party.

@corbe -  Worth a poll?

That is what the 71 Million that VOTED for TRUMP want not just Republicans. When TRUMP finally understand that he does NOT have or ever had the REPUBLICAN PARTY the only influence he will ever have on the AMERICA will be the forming of the NEW PATROIT PARTY. He needs to fail a few more times to get the message and realize that JARVANKA and his other advisors that brought down his Presidency do not have his best interests. TRUMP judgement of personnel is terrible , more than most people and really needs a bridge to fall on him , sometimes. He does have name recognition and loves this country and starting a NEW Patriot PARTY would be one of his best accomplishments. TRUMP was the best ever at Economics and Foreign Affairs this country ever had and might possibly ever have. However he did not keep the promises that got him elected and not draining the swamp but hiring him was his downfall. JMO :patriot:

You can call the new party "Trump's bitches" since that's what they'll be.

Anyone with a couple of neurons firing in their head knows that splitting the right vote 64 - 36 would be suicide.

Anyone with a couple firing cerebral nuerons also realizes that the present GOP does not represent the best interests of those 40,000,000-50,000,000 "bitches".  90% of politics is about leverage.  Let the complict and capitulating GOP slink back to us on our terms, and let the Elephant die like their Whig counterparts 160 years ago.

You might enjoy sipping Mitch's, McCarthy's, and Cheney's  koolaid, but most of the rest of us would rather fight back.

And this is from someone who thought month ago, that a 3rd party was a bad idea.  Sadly, you are being left behind.

So, essentially you are calling me (pro-3rd party for Trump) a bitch.  Well...here's the thing.  I would much rather be Trumps bitch than Biden's bitch, which essentially means ChiCom's bitch ....

like you.

Yes, I am not willing to join a mob of half wits, following an orange gorilla on a suicide mission. I voted for Trump twice, I don't regret it, but I know the folly of treating the guy like some sort of God or messiah. The right is supposed to be immune to cults of personality, but I guess like a lot of what the "right" spouts these days, is a bunch of bullshit.

Interesting. I find it equally appalling that there are RINO factions left who a hedging their bets on a establishment GOP hell bent in capitulation and cowering to their democratic overlords. All you need to know about the present state of GOP is what happened last week with Cheney and Greene. McConnell and McCarthy are cowards, and bent to the whims of an angry MSM.

And to the poiint of the disgusting insults about God/Messiah/Cults.   Many of us have been extremely critical of Trump's behavior.  Hell, I voted 3rd party in '16. Calling me a Cultist, is beyond bullshit.  Then add the fact, the man will be in his '80's in '24, and might not even be in the running for POTUS. What you are calling Bitches are 30-40M people who are sick of establishment GOP complicity in driving this country toward socialism.  Trump's ideas of putting the country instead of China first, reducing government and regulation, and stopping the hoards at the border appeal much more that the alternative.

Ok, do you agree that a 64-36 split would be suicide at the least?

Stop whining like little bitches and start winning primaries if you're so upset.

Maybe painful in the short term, but sometimes you have to cut off the cancer to save the patient.  In the long term, I actually see the vast majority existing GOP would migrate to the new party, in a desperate act of survivial. The anger of the majority of Trump voters can not be underestimated.

Wow, I thought you were a little more knowledgable of how the systems works than making that comment.  You really think the RNC is going to give any MAGA types any money or preference in earlly primaries? GOP's wish is to extinquish the ideas of the Trump era, and see if this all can be swept under the rug.  If there is any crediblity in this Thread's poll, that wish is pretty unlikely.

@Weird Tolkienish Figure , I believe you are misreading the poll.  64% of Republicans would join anyone who is willing to stand up against the GOPe.  This isn't about Orangeman.  It's about how the GOPe has been screwing us over for over a decade.

Remember the uprising against Obamacare in 2010 where masses of Conservatives showed up at the Capitol to express their grievances and how the GOPe exploited that to take control of the Senate in 2011?  And what did they do?  They screwed us all over.  Again and again.  → THIS is what makes Conservatives want to leave the GOP and form a new party that refuses to be Democrat-lite.  It has nothing to do with following Trump.

Good effing grief.   You really need to at least try to keep up with events as they unfold.  Don't remember Snake McCain swooping into DC just to be the sole vote to destroy the GOP vote to eliminate ObamaCare?   What country (planet) DO you live in/on?

2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020

Each of those years, the unaffordable health care act required the vote of a Republican controlled legislative body to continue funding.  And each of those years, Republicans voted to continue funding it.

That's because shutting down the whole government is a losing proposition for conservatives and always has been. Get the necessary votes to overturn it and then do that.

Anyone with a couple of neurons firing in their head knows that splitting the right vote 64 - 36 would be suicide.

This glue  pointing-up that has held the party together for decades has become dry, cracked and useless.

Time to end the GOP.  If you want to call it suicide, fine.
