Impeachment managers request Trump testify in Senate trial
By Scott Wong and Mike Lillis - 02/04/21 01:22 PM EST

The House impeachment managers on Thursday formally requested that former President Trump testify under oath in his Senate impeachment trial that kicks off next week.

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), the Democrats’ lead impeachment manager, sent a letter to Trump and his attorneys alleging that his defense — outlined Tuesday in a legal brief — denies “incontrovertible facts” about Trump’s role in the deadly Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol.

“You have thus attempted to put critical facts at issue notwithstanding the clear and overwhelming evidence of your constitutional offense,” Raskin wrote to Trump. “In light of your disputing these factual allegations, I write to invite you to provide testimony under oath, either before or during the Senate impeachment trial, concerning your conduct on January 6, 2021.”

Raskin has asked Trump to testify, and face cross-examination, as early as Monday and no later than Feb. 11, adding: “We would be pleased to arrange such testimony at a mutually convenient time and place.”

Trump’s camp did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Thursday afternoon.

Trump's response should be, "Nuts!"

1) Hse impeachment mgrs write to Trump. Ask him to testify under oath next week. Say "You have thus attempted to put critical facts at issue notwithstanding the clear and overwhelming evidence of your constitutional offense."

2) Impeachment mgrs: "In light of your disputing these factual allegations, I write to invite you to provide testimony under oath, either before or during the Senate impeachment trial, concerning your conduct on January 6, 2021."

3) Impeachment mgrs: "We would propose that you provide your testimony (of course including cross-examination) as early as Monday, February 8, 2021, and not later than Thursday, February 11, 2021. We would be pleased to arrange such testimony at a mutually convenient time/place."

4) Impeachment Mgrs: "Presidents Gerald Ford and Bill Clinton both provided testimony while in office—and the Supreme Court held just last year that you were not immune from legal process while serving as President—so there is no doubt that you can testify in these proceedings."

5) Impeachment mgrs: "If you decline this invitation, we reserve any and all rights, including the right to establish at trial that your refusal to testify supports a strong adverse inference regarding your actions (and inaction) on January 6, 2021."

From the pool. Graham on Hse impeachment mgrs wanting to call Trump for interview:" It’s obviously a political ploy on their part." Graham on if Trump would come: "No. I hope not." Says the trial is "just a nightmare for the country." Calls it a "showboat move."

Trump should deny the request. Force on the Dems the choice of subpoenaing him or not. Trump should not dignify this unconstitutional show-trial by voluntarily appearing.
If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"? Is reality a Big Pharma Shill?

As long as Giuliani is not on the legal staff, none of his lawyers is going to ask him to.  Trump considers this entire sham Impeachment to be illegal, and their threat to insert a strongly worded letter into the proceedings is laughable.

Senate Republicans don't want Trump to testify in impeachment trial
https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/537419-senate-republicans-dont-want-trump-to-testify-in-impeachment-trial

Who cares?  They voted the losing side when setting rules for this travesty.  It's nice of them to pipe up, though.  Props to them.

As long as they can keep Trump in front of the public - without offering him a chance to speak unless spoken to - the better chance no one will notice how Obama 2.0 and their EOs are burning down the nation.

Trump will not testify in 'unconstitutional' Senate impeachment trial

Quote
Former President Trump will not testify in his Senate impeachment trial, Fox News has learned.

"The president will not testify in an unconstitutional proceeding," Trump senior adviser Jason Miller told Fox News Thursday.
...
"We are in receipt of your latest public relations stunt," Trump's attorneys Bruce Castor and David Schoen wrote. "As you certainly know, there is no such thing as a negative inference in this unconstitutional proceeding."

"Your letter only confirms what is known to everyone: you cannot prove your allegations against the 45th President of the United States, who is now a private citizen," they continued.

They added: "The use of our Constitution to bring a purported impeachment proceeding is much too serious to try to play these games."

This forces on the Dems a choice with no good options: backing down would be an admission their proceeding is invalid; OTOH, a subpoena would probably be promptly challenged ... in a real court, that very last thing the Dems should want.

I'm sure the Rats are friendly enough to provide Donald Trump, private citizen, a nice box to sit in while he provides testimony.

The terrorists should subpoena Trump and see if the media will notice the violation of the Fifth Amendment.

Since the courts aren't involved, this could get interesting.
The GOP is not the party leadership.  The GOP is the party MEMBERSHIP.   The members need to kick the leaders out if they leaders are going the wrong way.  No coddling allowed.

No.
Subpoena or not, Mr. Trump should not appear.
Let them go down and try to make him do so.
I'm sure the Secret Service agents will have a little to say about that.

Not if Biteme strips away the SS protection by EO.  I fully expect him to do that.
