More Americans have been vaccinated for COVID-19, as of Monday, than have been infected with the illness as the nationwide inoculation rollout continues, according to a report.

According to a Bloomberg Vaccine Tracker, 26.5 million people in the US have now received at least one dose of the vaccine, surpassing the 26.2 million coronavirus cases since the onset of the pandemic.

“It’s worth noting that today, for the first time, the data said that more people were vaccinated than were reported as newly diagnosed cases,” Paula Cannon, a professor at the University of Southern California’s Keck School of Medicine, told the outlet....

A new study of young people found that COVID-19 reinfection was “common” among those who had the virus.

The study, published Friday in the preprint server MedRxiv, examined 3,249 young, healthy mostly male Marine recruits between the ages of 18-20 before they started basic training.

Of the 189 participants that tested positive for antibodies, 19 ended up testing positive for the virus six weeks later, according to the study — which is yet to be peer reviewed and was conducted by Mount Sinai, the Naval Research Center and other universities.

The PCR test detects the DNA it is programmed to detect. It basically does not discern between a live active virus and a fragment of a dead virus. This has long been acknowledged and known.

In practical terms, a recently recovered Covid patient like me would test positive. But calling that a "false positive" stretches reality a bit too far. I, obviously, was infected and the detected DNA is real.

Yep. Now having that in your system does not mean you have been reinfected. It does not mean you are active, just that you have been exposed.
