China gives Biden dire warning – says must adhere to China’s rules on these issues
A top Chinese diplomat laid out “red lines†on Monday for President Joe Biden’s administration to avoid crossing with China, including interfering with matters in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Tibet, and Xinjiang, where the U.S. has accused China of genocide against the ethnic minority Uyghurs.
In a video address to the National Committee on United States-China Relations in New York, Yang Jiechi, the director of China’s Foreign Affairs Commission, said the U.S. should adhere to the One-China Principle, which recognizes Taiwan as a part of Chinese territory, and “should stop interference in the affairs of Hong Kong, Tibet, and Xinjiang,†referring to the issues as China’s “internal affairs.â€
“These issues concern China’s core interests, national dignity, as well as the sensitivities of its 1.4 billion people,†Yang said. “They constitute a red line which must not be crossed.â€
Yang said “any trespassing would undermine U.S.-China relations and the United States’ own interests.
