The Pentagon will offer coronavirus vaccinations to inmates at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba by as soon as next week, defense officials with knowledge of the decision confirmed to Fox News on Thursday.

Clayton Trivett Jr., a federal prosecutor trying on the case against five inmates alleged to have conspired in the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center, told defense lawyers that "an official in the Pentagon just signed a memo approving the delivery of the COVID-19 vaccine to the detainee population in Guantanamo," the New York Times reported.

The 40 prisoners at the Guantanamo Bay military prison will be offered vaccines "on a voluntary basis" because consent is required to administer a treatment that has yet to receive full FDA approval. A lack of vaccinations has reportedly made it difficult for federal prosecutors to move forward with war crimes hearings at the base.

Pentagon halting Guantanamo Bay COVID vaccine plan after backlash

The Pentagon announced on Saturday that it was temporarily halting a plan to vaccinate prisoners at the U.S. Military Base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba after major backlash to the proposal.

The government had reportedly planned to offer the coronavirus vaccine to the prisoners in the coming weeks, allowing them to jump ahead of the vast majority of Americans who have not yet received the medicine.

The plan was blasted by numerous commentators, including Americans associated with relief efforts during the 9/11 terrorist attacks, such as former New York City Fire Commissioner Tom Van Essen, who in the New York Post called the Pentagon's decision "theater of the absurd."

How do we know this isn't disinformation, that the vaccine had been already given when the backlash hit and the government is trying to cover it's *ss, that Uncle Joe isn't secretly taking care of his friends in the Middle East to show how he wants too work with them?

JustTheNews is a Dem disinformation site? Produce evidence of what you claim to suspect and I'll consider taking it seriously. As Stonewall Jackson supposedly said, "Never take counsel of your fears."

My guess is that the negative public response shot down a trial balloon. And maybe DoD realized that vaccinating the staff both protected the prisoners as well as increasing the number of vaccinated Americans. My guess and a 10er will get you coffee and change at Starchucks.
