Confirmed: Philly Vaccines Went To Dodgy Charity Executive’s Friends

John (Sexton, Hot Air writer) first brought up this story on Wednesday and ongoing investigations have only made it look worse. We’re talking about the formerly non-profit (but now for profit) “charity” group in Philadelphia called Philly Fighting COVID (PFC) and its founder, 22-year old grad student Andrei Doroshin. As John already reported, the young man in question hastily organized his organization to begin doing COVID testing in the city, setting up a website where people could register and make appointments. The problem is, none of this activity was sanctioned by the City Council. The group later switched over to the more profitable activity of scheduling and administering vaccines.

Even more disturbing was a report at the end of John’s article where a nurse at one of the PFC vaccination sites reported seeing Doroshin taking a “bundle” of doses already loaded into syringes and putting them in his bag before leaving the site for the day. Social media posts later emerged showing the grad student apparently preparing to vaccinate someone at a private party. A PFC spokesperson later tried to claim that Doroshin had attended a “small party” but no vaccines were administered. That turned out to be a lie and now the 22-year-old wannabe wunderkind has owned up to the deed, but it still sounds like he’s trying to mislead the public and deflect the blame.

Right now this looks like a gross illustration of how UNseriously Philly and Pennsylvania have handled vaccination distribution. It's obviously a "developing" story, so more may be learned. Right now, PA vaccinations as a percentage of doses PA has received are substantially below the national percentage (US = 54%; PA = 44%; 1/28 AM CDC data).

... When vaccines came onto the market, Doroshin and company abruptly dropped the testing business and shifted completely into vaccination, leaving many of their partner organizations in the lurch.

The contracts were put out to bid following the city’s good-government procedures, but those safeguards were immediately short-circuited when Philadelphia’s Deputy Health Commissioner Caroline Johnson told Doroshin how much to bid. According to e-mails obtained by the Philadelphia Inquirer, Johnson suggested that Doroshin start “conservatively” with a low bid, then request more once tax dollars started flowing from Washington to aid the vaccine effort.

Unsurprisingly, the inside information helped Doroshin’s company got the city’s biggest contract. Johnson sent a similar message to the Black Doctors COVID-19 Consortium, according to the Inquirer, which at least is a group run by actual medical professionals. Doroshin’s vaccination site opened on Jan. 8 with Mayor Jim Kenney and several city council members attending, along with Johnson. She resigned after the news of her corruption became public.

It's almost a tossup between Cuomo and Wolf as to which governor was more of a disaster with regard to all things Covid.

NY, 65.9%

PA, 58.4%

CA, 59.4%

I'm mildly surprised that PA is worse than CA. Considering that states like the Dakotas, WV, and CO are in the 70%-80% range, even the best of the three above, NY, is pathetic!

Last I saw, WV had administered 99%+ of its vaccines. Our governor may be a doofus, but at least he didn't screw this up!
