Lawmaker wants to make cannon the official gun of Texas
« on: January 26, 2021, 03:07:31 pm »
Chron by Mike Ward Jan. 11, 2017

The cannon, like this one being fired at a Memorial Day service, would become the official state gun under a resolution filed
Wednesday by state Sen. Don Huffines, R-Dallas.

AUSTIN -- A Dallas state senator wants to make the cannon the official state gun of Texas.

The measure was among a package of gun bills filed Wednesday that would outlaw state and local gun registration, forbid any local regulation of guns and would keep licensed gun owners who are arrested for drunken driving from facing an additional weapons charge in some cases.

There is nothing more bad ass than cannons......

There's a reason that this is one of my favorite album covers of all time!!!!

I display the Confederate Battle Flag in honor of my great great great grandfathers who spilled blood at Wilson's Creek and Shiloh.  5 others served in the WBTS with honor too.

I wanted one for Yard Art, but my wife shot that down. Thought it may have conveyed the "wrong" message.   888mouth

I want one bigger than that

@GrouchoTex

It can be disappointing to see how small that original cannon actually is.

My cannon is smaller in bore 1" but is longer at 29". I also have a "tiny" 2-1/4" bore Coehorn Mortar. I have just about completed a 1" bore oxy-propane cannon.

As a Texan, I have no objection.

However, if we all start comparing canon sizes, this thread will derail fast.  :thud:
Let it burn.

I failed to mention all the air powered baseball firing cannons I built when my son was in Little League. The kids were at first squeamish standing at the plate facing a booming cannon on the mound firing knuckle balls at them, but they got used to it. I never did hit any of them. What was most popular was using it for fly ball practice. I had a mobile compressor I put together from an old York car AC compressor belted to a 12V 1/3 hp motor. I could fire them as fast as they were returned to me, no matter how many were being fired. I just had to regulate the pressure so they would stay in the field. I still have the last one I built. I clocked the balls up to 103mph @ 40psi. I stopped there.

I saw one on Pawn Stars that shot bowling balls.  That would be a blast!

Where I used to go to shoot my lil cannon, was close to the Camp Swift Army Base. I know they could hear me fire as I could sure hear their gunfire. I don't think I ever fired when helicopters were flying over. I fired my oxy-propane gun today for the first time. My dog Bane was not too pleased.
