New photos show a rare 16-inch artillery shell fired from the battleship USS New Jersey. The shell was one of 5,866 fired against enemy targets during the battlewagon’s short-lived Vietnam tour, and had it gone off, it would have created a crater 50 feet across. Explosive ordnance specialists from an international demining organization safely deactivated it.
