Watch: WV Democrat Manchin On Eliminating Crucial Filibuster: ‘I’d Be No On That’

Charlotte, NC — On Sunday, speaking on CNN’s “State of the Union” with host Jake Tapper, West Virginia Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin, whose party will soon have control of the Senate, as the 50-50 tie in the Senate will give his party control with Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris breaking any ties, stated that he was against eliminating the legislative filibuster, saying, “I’m basically for making this place work together. I don’t know if that works. I’d be no on that.”

The filibuster requires a minimum of 60 votes needed to advance legislation. This would require most Democratic proposals to require at least 10 GOP senators to agree in order for them to be passed. Eliminating the legislative filibuster would enable the Democrats to pass legislation with a simple majority vote.

The minority party can keep debate open on a legislative issue until the Senate votes to close the issue, but in order to close the issue, it would take 60 votes. There are limitations to the filibuster. It cannot be used for certain budget bills, federal executive branch appointees judicial appointments, including Supreme Court nominees.

In addition, Tapper asked Manchin about statehood for Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C. Manchin indicated that he wanted “to see the pros and cons” before he made up his mind on the issue. Asked about a ban on some forms of semi-automatic weapons. Manchin did not give a specific answer, instead offering, “I’m not gonna eliminate people having their guns. They shouldn’t be scared to death of Democrats on the 2ndAmendment taking their guns away.”.........

I Believe in the United States of America as a Government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign nation of many sovereign states; a perfect union one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.  I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it; to support its Constitution; to obey its laws to respect its flag; and to defend it against all enemies.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Blah, blah, blah.

We'll see where you stand when the time comes, Joe.
Not before.

If he follows through on this with his vote, am sure there is a suicide to follow.
No punishment, in my opinion, is too great, for the man who can build his greatness upon his country's ruin~  George Washington

They won't need his vote. I'm sure some Pubs will agree to it just to try and go along. If that fails the Rats will add a couple States.

Show of hands of Briefers who would remotely trust Joe Manchin?
I display the Confederate Battle Flag in honor of my great great great grandfathers who spilled blood at Wilson's Creek and Shiloh.  5 others served in the WBTS with honor too.
