Today, violent radicals stormed the U.S. Capitol Building after the conclusion of President Donald Trump’s speech at what is likely to be the final rally he’ll hold in the city. In the end, one woman was shot and killed, parts of the building were damaged, and a lot of morons made fools of themselves. Nothing of value was actually accomplished because that obviously wasn’t the goal of the perpetrators. Instead, any possible debate on election integrity will be shelved for the foreseeable future. In fact, most of the elected officials who were set to object to the electoral college certification today have backed out. That line of pursuit is simply over.

In order to regain control of the Capitol, National Guard troops were called in, but it’s who called them in and who wasn’t consulted that makes that decision interesting. It turns out that VP Mike Pence made the call. In fact, the Department of Defense never even contacted the President, completely bypassing him.

We are prepared to provide additional support as necessary and appropriate as requested by local authorities. Our people are sworn to defend the constitution and our democratic form of government and they will act accordingly.’

Has the 25th Amendment basically been invoked, even if just in spirit?

I am interested in learning more about this; has anyone seen details?

I have argued on this board that the Cruz-led objections to certifying various state EV counts cannot be seen, and in fact cannot be, a defense of Trump; rather they must be, and be seen as, a defense of credible elections conducted according to Constitutional requirements.  Yesterday's riot doesn't change that fact that the Constitutionality and credibility of elections must be defended, even when that defense is clearly going to fail.  Had legal and Constitutional attempts at defending elections been more effectively and vigorously pursued perhaps the riot wound not have occurred in the first place.

Democrats sign letter urging Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment

Rep. David Cicilline tweeted that if the vice president does not make such a move, Congress should impeach Trump.

The Rats are looking to deliver just one more act of malice before the Inauguration.  The illegal alien Somali from Minnesota filed impeachment articles as well.

After the 20th, there will be Federal charges lodged against Trump and anybody who was on his side.  It will be interesting to see if Biteme pardons them.  If he does, it would be his final act as Preezy of the United Steezy.
