Gaetz on GOP leadership thwarting challenge: Tried to cut the hour we have to present our objections
January 6, 2021 | Frieda Powers

U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz revealed that efforts by Republican lawmakers to formally challenge election results in Congress may be thwarted.

The Florida Republican told Fox News on Tuesday that despite there being more than 100 GOP House members who plan to object to the certification of Electoral College results from several states, leaders may be looking to give away their allotted time on the floor.

Election results in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Nevada, and Wisconsin, among others, will be reportedly under challenge during Wednesday’s joint session of Congress. Hours of debate are expected as lawmakers make the case for rejecting the results from certain swing states.

But Gaetz noted that GOP leaders had decided to undermine “unified teamwork” and would potentially be giving away the debate time.

Disturbing news from negotiations my colleagues and I have just had with GOP leadership:

Republican leadership is contemplating taking the one hour we have to present our objections on each state and giving part of that time away to Republicans who don't support the objections.
