What Books Are You Reading Or Do You Want To Read

I just ordered Conscience of a Conservative by Barry Goldwater.

I want to understand what "conservatism" meant back then.

Just wondering what good books on politics are out there...they seem to come so fast.

Have not read Ann Coulter in a while.  Has she put out anything new ?

A History of China - J. A. G. Roberts

The Weight of Glory - a collection of essays by C. S. Lewis
If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"? Is reality a Big Pharma Shill?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.

I haven't read anything specific for a while.

The following two are in my sig line.  They are more about why we needed a Republic.

K Popper, An Open Society and Its Enemies & The Logic of Scientific Discovery
A Solzhenitsyn, The Gulag Archipelago, & Everything he wrote

These are excellent

Philip Hamburger, Is Administrative Law Unlawful?
Amity Shlaes, The Forgotten Man: A New History of the Great Depression
Amity Shlaes, Coolidge
M Stanton Evans, Blacklisted by History: The Untold Story of Senator Joe McCarthy and His Fight Against America's Enemies
Herbert Romerstein, The Venona Secrets: The Definitive Exposé of Soviet Espionage in America

Whittaker Chambers, Witness

This author, Williams, fawns over Long, but you can still see everything about win no matter what.
Long was an interesting character and the book easy reading. But you see the same crap in today's Democrats
Long secured the first nomination of FDR. Long was an interesting guy.

T Harry Williams, Huey Long

I am currently reading about Samuel Johnson, the creator of the first English dictionary, about 1740 or so

Leo Damrosch, The Club

I recently completed another book about Johnson.

James Boswell, The Life of Samuel Johnson
White, American, MAGA, 3% Neanderthal, and 97% Extreme Right Wing Conservative.

Recommended

J Boswell, The Life of Samuel Johnson
E Burke, Reflections on the Revolution in France
N Davies, Europe: A History
R Feynman, The Feynman Lectures on Physics
R Penrose, The Road To Reality & The Emperor's New Mind
K Popper, An Open Society and Its Enemies & The Logic of Scientific Discovery
A Solzhenitsyn, The Gulag Archipelago, & Everything he wrote

Last book finished:
Witness, by Whittaker Chambers. I should have read it years ago.

Currently reading:
School of Darkness, by Bella Dodd. She was a communist in the NYC teachers/labor movements who later was expelled from the party and became an anti-communist. It's astounding how deeply the communists had infiltrated both the teachers and blue-collar labor unions back in the 30's-40's. Having said that, communist influence therein is probably as strong today.

On the list and "next up":
The Gulag Archipelago (abridged 1-volume edition) by Alexander Solzhenitsyn. I don't think I could have handled the full 3-volume set, and the abridged version was done with Solzhenitsyn's approval.

Amerika- The Triumph of the American Spirit. This is a novelization of the 1987 tv miniseries about a Soviet/communist takeover of the USA, accomplished by "UN peacekeepers" from [then] East Germany. I had found the series "on the net" and watched it, it's actually pretty good, but would like to try the novelized version.

------------------------------
Principled conservatism means the same today as it did at the time of Confucius.
Conservatism has nothing (and never did) to do w/Politics. NOTHING!
Suggested readings:
* The Republic / Plato,
* The Prince /Machiavelli,
* Reasonableness of Christianity / Locke.

The Prince, by Machiavelli is definitely a reading requirement.

I haven't read the other two.

Coulter wrote an excellent book about Senator Joseph McCarthy a few years back
but M Stanton Evans book Blacklisted by History is far superior.

Coulter included a photograph in her book of McCarthy's grave marker with herself in the photo.
I tracked the location once, but I have forgotten.  It is in Wisconsin, Joe's state.
