CNN Gives 23 Minutes to South Dakota Nurse’s Dubious Claims Trashing COVID Patients

In the latest blow to CNN’s claim to be a news organization, National Review and Wired found last week that their much-heralded November 16 interview with South Dakota nurse Jodi Doering, who was trashing her patients, had more than a few holes.

While Doering’s story drew widespread attention by over a half dozen CNNers, National Review and Wired couldn’t find anyone to confirm Doering’s claims of coronavirus patients “who still don’t believe the virus is real” and that it’s instead a conspiracy theory.

According to a Nexis search of CNN-U.S. shows, CNN dedicated 23 minutes and 38 seconds between November 16 and 18 to Doering’s tale of, in the words of weekday afternoon CNN Newsroom host Brianna Keilar,  “doctors and nurses...battling conspiracy theories along with the virus.”

Of course, CNN has yet to air an acknowledgment or correction because, when there’s a narrative to push, CNN subscribes to the mantra of if it rings true, it is true.

Condescending hack Brianna Keilar used Doering’s dubious tale to make angry faces in a commentary attacking Governor Kristi Noem (R-SD): “South Dakotans are dying because of their leader's malfeasance. South Dakotans are dying without dignity, in some cases, wondering how their body is ravaged by something they didn't think was real. South Dakotans are sounding the alarm. Are you listening, Governor Noem?”

ABC Skews and MesSNBC's Rachel MadCow also bit on Doering's lie.

FWIW, at 928 deaths per million population, SD is higher than the US' 803 per million. But SD is far from from being the worst of the US states: NJ, NY, MA, CN, LA, MS, RI, ND, IL, and DC. Since SD daily deaths were pretty minimal and started to climb around September 10th, I'm guessing the recent increase has just been the weather and maybe having a higher percentage of vulnerable people who had not yet been affected.
