The great film "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" tells a story that places a western legend against the truth of what really happened. Towards the end of the film, after the protagonist reveals the actual story of his life to a newspaper editor, the editor takes the reporter's notes, tears them up, and throws them into the fire.

He says to the protagonist (Jimmy Stewart playing Senator Ransom Stoddard):
"This is the west, sir. When legend becomes fact... print the legend."

Today marks the 110th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. I decided to re-read "A Night To Remember" for probably the last time. Finished it yesterday.

One of the popular legends was that the ship's band went down playing "Nearer My God To Thee". Almost certainly that wasn't the case, but I believe when the song is performed today, most folks still recall, "Titanic".

So... when I first found this video back around January, I decided to keep it around for the occasion.
When legend becomes fact... keep listening to the legend.
Play it tonight around 11.40p...
(Perhaps this is also appropriate for an entire nation [and Western Civilization] that seems "down at the bow"...)
