Sen. Amy Klobuchar, who is rumored to be a possible choice for President-elect Joe Biden's attorney general, has supported efforts to try and break up Google.
Klobuchar, a Democrat and former prosecutor in Minneapolis, praised the Justice Department for considering "structural remedies" in its recently filed antitrust lawsuit against the tech giant during a virtual keynote speech for the American Bar Association's Fall Forum, according to CNBC.
"In a serious monopolization action like this one, it’s important that a breakup remedy be on the table,†Klobuchar said.
Democrats and Republicans have varying concerns about the influence of Big Tech as they seek more regulation on Silicon Valley. Democrats have prioritized calling for Congress to rein in and break up tech giants such as Google, while Republicans are focused largely on claims of social media censorship and fact-checking, which they say have overwhelmingly targeted conservative content.
Biden named new members to his transition team earlier this week, many of whom come from tech giants such as Amazon, Google, and Microsoft.
Klobuchar is being floated as a contender for Biden's top law enforcement official, though the former vice president has not announced specific names for Cabinet positions. However, he is starting to make moves, announcing on Wednesday that Ron Klain will serve as his chief of staff.
Klobuchar, who ran an unsuccessful presidential bid during the Democratic primary, endorsed Biden shortly after ending her campaign.
