He was the leading actor in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.
That doesn't mean anything to me. I could count on one hand the number of movies I've been to in the past 20 years - near as I can tell, two documentaries and three dramatic ones (The Passion of the Christ, 1917 and Patriots Day).

I don't say this as an insult or a slam, John Cusack is mentally ill, has been for a long time. I think there might be two movies he has done that I enjoyed and they were decades ago. Because of his insulting juvenile comments and embracing of communism/socialism I have not had a desire to watch anything else he has done, no matter if it was any good.

Here are the John Cusack movies I liked:

Sixteen Candles (minor role)
Better Off Dead
Say Anything
Eight Men Out (minor role)
The Grifters (Annette Benning and Angelica Houston were awesome)
Pushing Tin

One fundamental attribute of the film industry is that the final product is never dependent upon getting it right the first time.  Actors are allowed multiple takes to get a scene right.  Forgotten lines, poor performance, broken sequences, etc. all can be corrected with another take.  Or another.  Or another.  On a single scene, an actor can screw up 47 times in a row, but as long as he gets it right on Take 48, that take is what goes into the final product.  Cutting, splicing, editing, dubbing, etc., all make the movie into a product that sells, even though the actor screwed up 47 times.

This is why it galls me to no end to hear actor criticize an executive.  Trump doesn't get the benefit of 47 retakes.  His actions now affect millions of lives, whether it is words spoken to a foreign leader, instructions given to a cabinet official, an appointment to a key position, or a signature on an executive order.  It has to be perfect the first time - not on Take 48.  And John Cusack is not fit to shine his shoes.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

"Actors are allowed multiple takes to get a scene right"

No fan of Cusack who does sound like he's mentally ill, but some directors were/are known for endless takes.  Stanley Kubrick drove Jack Nicholson to the brink with endless retakes when filming "The Shining." 75 takes for the scene where Nicholson's character kills Scatman Crothers. Scatman Crothers was so distraught at the numerous takes he cried tears of joy when filming a movie with Clint Eastwood. Eastwood rarely did more than one or two takes for a scene.

Hitchcock didn't like extra takes, and he was renowned for leaving the least amount of film on the editing room floor.  He knew exactly what he wanted before filming even started.

Speaking of extra takes, has anyone here seen 1917?  The entire movie was shot in only two takes.

Hitchcock's body of work stands up a lot better over time than Kubrick's. The latter's movies were mostly stinkers. "Dr. Strangelove" was great, but he had a lot of dogs.  "2001" is the most overrated flick in film history. Mad Magazine had it right --"Space Idiocy."

Cusack hasn't made a movie worth a good BM in over 20 years.

I used to go to the theater and see every movie made with the exception of children and horror movies.  That stopped about 12 years ago, and I do not know why.  I guess I got tired of the crap coming from Hollywood.  I probably could not name five movies in the last 20 years I think were quality movies.

Back to Cusack, I went to IMDB to refresh my memory of what he made.  The following movies I enjoyed:

Runaway Jury - which had other actors in it that I enjoy, particularly Gene Hackman
Serendipity - which had Kate Beckinsale(I like her) Cusack played his usual idiot role
Con Air - Nicholas Cage was the primary actor, along with many others like Malkovich,  Cusack was a bit actor in it
The Journey of Natty Gann - again Meredith Salinger was the primary actress, Cusack had a smaller role.  Watched this many times with my kids, who enjoyed the movie.
Sure Thing - another teen movie, he was the primary actor, but anyone liking this movie was interested in Daphne Zuniga.  Again, Cusack in a sort of dumb role.
Must Love Dogs - an ok movie, but really, I watched it for Diane Lane.

He has been in 88 performances, and I have seen nothing in 15 years worth a mention.  All his stuff is the same.  I do not consider him a versatile actor.

And like all actors, athletes and journalists, I do not care to know what they personally think about anything, particularly politics.  Just do your job, whatever that may be.
