There never was going to be any kind of defeating this virus. It might possibly have been contained in Wuhan or Hubei Province, but that opportunity (if there was one) passed some time in mid-late December last year. IOW, weeks before news of the outbreak was leaked out of China.
By the time the outside world knew of it controlling was the only realistic possibility, and that would entail balancing the development of herd immunity with preventing hospitals from being overwhelmed and increasing protection for the most vulnerable until a vaccine(s) could be developed, tested, produced, and distributed. If Biden and his task force members don't understand that they are going to do foolish things, probably getting people killed (Covid, deferred treatment of other diseases, depression & suicide).
