World Series Game Five---Live Thread

Top of the first.

DODGERS

Mookie Betts: ball one, fastball outside; fouls one off; ball two, curve ball down and away; ball three, fastball down and away; swinging strike, fastball with a little cut to it; popped up, back out of play; fouled off another fastball; lined into left, leadoff base hit, it gets to the fence past Margot, Betts coasts into second with a leadoff double.

Corey Seager (7-for-14 in WS so far): fouled a curve ball up straight back; pulls a curve into right for a base hit, Betts is coming home, it's 1-0 Dodgers right off the bat.

Justin Turner: fouls one off; throw to first, Seager back standing up; ball one down and away; swinging strike, went around on the check swing, high fastball where Zunino was expecting curve and had to block and jerk his head to the side to avoid being hit; curve ball, see you later! Strikeout for Glasnow.

Max Muncy: curve ball, strike one called; curve ball, strike two called, bounced a curve, blocked by Zunino, Seager took off and the throw won't get him, the Rays challenge---did the thigh tag beat the foot to the pad?---Seager and Adames chat amiably while waiting for the review---headsets come off, the ruling is safe, the call's upheld; ball two, fastball up and in (check swing); ball three, fastball up and away; ball four, curve ball high, first walk by Glasnow.

Rays PC Kyle Snyder visits Glasnow at the mound. Will Smith (DH): strike called, fastball on the outside corner; ball one, curve ball high; swinging strike on a fastball; ball two, curve ball lands upstairs; swinging strike three chasing up and away, two out.

Cody Bellinger (DHed last night; CF tonight): called strike at the belt; swinging strike two; pitch down and in, past Zunino, hit Marvin HUdson (plate ump) on the foot, Seager took off for third, Muncy stays at first; ground ball, shallow right, Lowe in shallow right had no play, Seager scores, Muncy to second, 2-0 Dodgers.

Joc Pederson: swinging strike on a fastball; curve ball, hits the middle, strike two; ball one, curve ball misses outside; hit to deep left center it's gonnnne, goodbye! 3-0 Dodgers.

Austin Barnes: ball one low; ball two, curve ball down and away; ball three, fastball way off; ball four down and away.

Mookie Betts: strike, curve ball in there; hits a curve to left, deep but playable, Margot has it for the out, Barnes back to first.

Corey Seager: takes ball one inside, Barnes is going, the throw is up there and they call him out on the overslide; ball two low; ball three, fastball low; strike called, fastball around the middle; ball four down and in, third walk for Glasnow.

Justin Turner: ball one, down and away; high fly to left center, Kiermaier has room in front of the track, that's the side. 3-0 Dodgers, mid-second.

Manuel Margot bunts one up the third base line, Turner hustles to barehand and throw but not in time, and Margot who was looking for it bunts his way aboard with a base hit.

Hunter Renfroe: ball one down and in; ball two, fastball misses down and away; bouncer back to the mound, Kershaw backhands, looks to second, takes the safe out at first, Margot to second.

Joey Wendle: strike called, fastball around the middle; fouls one back, strike two; ball one, fastball inside; ball two, slider down and away; fouls one back; curve ball, top corner, strike three called.

Willy Adames: swinging strike; bounced to third, long throw for Turner, bounces it across and Muncy makes the pick for the out and the side.

3-0 Dodgers after two.

Will Smith: ball one, curve ball high; ball two high; fouls a fastball straight back; fouls another one straight back; Ryan Thompson throwing in the Rays bullpen; fouls a high curve ball back; ball three, curve ball down and away; swinging strike three, fastball above the middle.

Cody Bellinger: called strike around the middle; swinging strike, curve in the dirt, another wild pitch and Muncy to second; swinging strike on a curve ball, two away.

Kevin Kiermaier: the Dodgers shift to the right against him; fouls a fastball back; swinging strike on a fastball; ball one, fastball upstairs; bounces a curve ball foul up the 1B line; slider chopped to the mound, Kershaw has to hurry after taking the ball barehand on its descent, they don't get him and Kiermaier has a leadoff infield single.

Mike Zunino: belt-high strike called; ball one, curve in the dirt; fouls one off Barnes's mask; ball two down and inside; fastball around the middle, strike three called.

Yandy Diaz: fouls one back to start; ball one, curve in the dirt blocked by Barnes; sharp to right, down for a hit, Betts over and the ball skipped past him to the corner, Kiermaier rounding third to score, Diaz sliding head first into third with an RBI triple. 3-1 Dodgers.

Randy Arozarena: swinging strike; swinging strike on a curve ball; ball one, slider bouncing in blocked by Barnes; lines into left, base hit, Diaz scores and it's 3-2, Dodgers.

Arozarena asks for the ball. 27th hit of the postseason, breaks Pablo (Kung Fu Panda) Sandoval's postseason record. Brandon Lowe: called strike slider; fouls one off; ball one low; throw to first, Arozarena back standing up; pulled foul up the 1B line; ball two misses upstairs; fights another one and fouls it off; swinging strike, slider in the dirt, Arozarena goes and they nail him at second, or do they, will the Rays ask for a challenge? They don't challenge the close play, 2-4 on the putout, that's the side. But the Rays bring the game back to within a single run.
