The problem with the NYT is that they put a lot of their content, recent content especially, behind their paywall. Ditto TWSJ, the LA Times, and McClatchy papers (e.g the Sacramento Bee).

Salem Media (e.g. PJMedia, Hot Air, Red State, Town Hall) puts some content behind their paywall, but just a minority of it at this point.

I've found the NYT links can be opened in a Private Window, and that works sometimes.

They allow a trial period of something like 3 articles.  Sites that do that are easily thwarted by right-clicking and Open in a Private Window option.  It defeats cookies.  And I think there is a pay subscription to NYT.
