Of course you are not afraid. You know where she is going.
Have you / she tried protein smoothies? They are a lot easier to get down than solid food. Mate of mine - he's a body builder - says make one with full fat milk and add a couple spoons of peanut butter for the calories you need.
Or fruit, if she doesn't like the taste.
She is in a nursing home now, unable to feed herself, but the aides do a wonderful job of feeding her. Just in the last week though, she has stopped swallowing some of her food and pocketing it in her mouth - now they need to check her mouth when they put her in bed so she won't choke on it - and she gets MAD when someone tries to look in her mouth.
They're feeding her pureed food now, like baby food. She is eating ok, but she is withdrawing. Her hands have contracted and now she is slumping over in her wheelchair - not looking up and sleeping most of the time.
My father is in my care now and he is having trouble chewing meat, so I've been giving him high-protein milkshakes and full fat milk. He is keeping his weight on, but he is getting worse too.
Here is a YouTube - Yes - one of my favorite groups of all time. I love this song, it is beautiful. I told my husband I would like this song to be played at my own funeral.
