Here's some good news:

TV ratings: How many people watched that ‘hot mess’ of a debate?

The turnout for Trump-Clinton in 2016 was much bigger

Chuck Barney   |   Bay Area News Group   September 30, 2020 at 9:36 am

Apparently, many Americans spared themselves the torture of watching Tuesday night’s first presidential debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden.

According to early numbers from Nielsen, the debate, which was aptly described by CNN’s Jake Tapper as “a hot mess inside a dumpster fire inside a train wreck,” is on track to draw a far smaller audience than the record-setting first face-off between Trump and Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Fast national ratings for the broadcast networks show the Trump-Biden showdown amassing about 29 million total viewers. The network breakdown favored ABC (which drew the largest broadcast crowd, with 11 million), followed by NBC (8 million), CBS (5.3 million) and Fox (4.5 million). Overall, it was a decline of 36 percent from 2016.

Did anyone hear Biden this morning before boarding the train in Cleveland?  It was a sad performance.

Donald Trump has, in fact, condemned white supremacy repeatedly. In the exchange everyone is quoting from last night, he repeatedly said he was willing to do so. The fact that this has been obscured is journalistic malpractice.

When you read the transcript of the debate, something clear emerges. Something that was obscured by all the noise and crosstalk: Trump won the debate, especially on points.

What the transcripts show very clearly is that Trump was, in prima facie fact, debating both Chris Wallace and Joe Biden at the same time.

I intend to contact Fox and let them know if they don't axe Wallace, I'm axing them from my tv viewing.  If enough folks do that, they might get the hint that they're going in the exact wrong direction if they care about ratings.

I think Trump's performance borders on *overkill*...I expect his poll numbers to drop after last night.

Like I said last night, there will be no more debates...which is good for Trump...he needs to get out there, hold more rallies and put this behind him...
@mystery-ak

The next one is different; it is a townhall one.  People in the audience will ask questions.  Surely, Trump will tone down and answer the questions asked of him and leave Biden alone to answer the questions he gets asked.

I remember Trump following Clinton all over the stage.  Surely, he will not do that again.

Leave Biden alone?! To slander the president and denigrate the office? To repeat demonstrable falsities? To lie about his son Hunter and the money he took from Ukrainians and Russians while Biden was Vice President?

Within 5 minutes of the start of the debate Biden was interrupting Trump and name-calling him. Biden set the tone for the debate, not the president.

There were times when Trump attacked the message but not the messenger.  Joe always attacked the messenger.

This is smearing an opponent, not debating him.

American Muslims praise Biden after he says 'inshallah' during Trump tax discussion
Celine Castronuovo 9 hrs ago

American Muslims took to Twitter to praise Democratic nominee Joe Biden after he used the Arabic word "inshallah" during a discussion on President Trump's tax returns during the first presidential debate Tuesday night.

The remark came after the debate moderator, Fox News's Chris Wallace, asked Trump to comment on recent New York Times reporting that the president paid only $750 in federal income taxes per year in 2016 and 2017.

"I've paid millions of dollars, and you'll get to see it," Trump said, implying that his tax returns would eventually be made available to the public.

"When?" Biden asked.

The former vice president then added, as his campaign later confirmed to NPR, "inshallah," an Arabic word that translates to "God willing" or "if God wills it."  ...
