NYT editorial board presses for plan if Trump tweets he won election

The editorial board of The New York Times is imploring the world's leading social media and technology companies to prepare themselves for a scenario in which President Trump claims victory on election night before he has been officially declared the winner.

"Imagine: It’s midnight, and the electoral map looks quite red. But news networks and election officials aren’t calling the swing states, as this year’s record numbers of mail-in and absentee ballots have yet to be fully counted," the Times wrote in an editorial published Sunday.

"Mr. Trump, leading in the popular vote, decides he’s seen enough. He takes to his social media platforms and declares that he has won re-election and will accept no other result. He tells his tens of millions of followers that the Democrats and the press will try to change the result and steal the election. The door to unrest and constitutional crisis swings wide open."


Trump has for weeks questioned the integrity of voting by mail, arguing they would lead to fraud. Experts say there is no reason to think there would be more fraud with mail-in voting than in-person voting.

The president cited these concerns when asked if he would accept the November election's result and commit to a peaceful transition of power should he lose.

Hillary has argued that Biden should not concede "under any circumstances", and well all know the democrat riot squads will be standing by to hit the streets in the event of a Trump victory (actually in any event.)

So what does the NYT have to say about a scenario in which Trump wins and the dems "cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war" rather than conceding?

Why does reporting the truth of what is happening require a "plan"?

* Tell what people said.

* Tell what people did.

* Tell the status of each state's count and when they certify their results.

Can I charge the NYT $100K for my wise three-point "plan"?

Trump's talk is bluster;  it's the Dems with the track record of refusing to accept the results of a free and fair election.   

If there is a Constitutional crisis this fall, it will be of the Democrats' doing.   All the more reason to make sure the SCOTUS seat is filled so that the coming chaos isn't exacerbated by a Court unable to act because of a 4 - 4 deadlock.

In that scenario there isn't a whole lot the Democrats can do except complain.

Apparently they think "complain" is spelled R-I-O-T.  The dems' strategy clearly is to create a situation in which the election results are reduced to chaos, legally and socially, so they can appeal it to the Federal Judiciary.  But the only scenario that seems of concern to the NYT is a Trump victory.

My thoughts exactly @Jazzhead; very well-stated.  This is the argument the Republicans should be making to press forward quickly with the USSC confirmation - it makes the immediate case, and it highlights the dems' pursuit of intentional chaos in pursuit of power.
