Trump: Supreme Court nominee will 'most likely' be a woman, announced next week
By Morgan Chalfant - 09/19/20 06:21 PM EDT

President Trump said Saturday that he expects to announce his nominee to replace the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the Supreme Court within the next week and that his choice would 'most likely' be a woman.

“I could see most likely it would be a woman,” Trump told reporters at the White House before departing for a campaign rally in North Carolina. “If somebody were to ask me now, I would say that a woman would be in first place. The choice of a woman, I would say, would certainly be appropriate.

“I think the choice will be next week,” Trump later said when asked about the timing of his nomination.

Judges Amy Coney Barrett and Barbara Lagoa are said to be among those that the president is seriously considering as nominees, sources told The Hill. Others under consideration are Judges Amul Thapar and Allison Jones Rushing. All four individuals were nominated by Trump to their current positions on the federal appellate bench.

Hopefully next week -- time is not on the GOP's side.

Lagoa would be an incredibly powerful pick in terms of impacting the election...and she is a rock solid conservative. The Dems will not be thrilled to have to go after and hammer a Latina nominee during a national election....but they will. And that will likely alienate even more Hispanic voters in critical states like Florida, Nevada and Arizona. Move this nomination forward...even if the final confirmation vote doesn't occur until early November (post election) it will impact the election itself.

Great point -- alienating the Hispanic vote would be icing on the cake!

@Mesaclone

If it is a "given" that there are no practical opinion/stand differences between her and the others,I agree.

I say "if" because frankly I have no idea where any of them stand on anything,other than they are being pushed forward as "conservatives",and I remember Boy Jorge being called a "conservative".

@libertybele

Truth to tell,I don't see that as being very hard to so since almost every one I have met with a Spanish last name is conservative.

Don't forget that for most of them,either they or their parents fled starvation and poverty in a semi-slave state that called itself "socialist" to come here so they could eat,own homes,and send their children to schools so their children didn't have to work as laborers. When they could even find work.

From what I have seen,it seems to ME the typical "His or Her Panics" that I have met are more conservative than the typical white person I know.
