They don't? Sure they do. Aren't games part of life?
If you want to claim they don't matter as far as life and death, that can be debated too.
Nevertheless, they're a form of entertainment either done personally or observed. That's a large part of life.
I will take that thought up... No, it is the PLAYING of the game that is the entertainment. It is the DOING of it that brings relief. Buy a kayak, as an instance, and replace your watching with going out every weekend to the river, for an idea of what I mean.
There is some small satisfaction in the voyeurism, a pleasure meant for the old and infirm... A kindness for those that cannot do. But as one who spent 7 years in a wheelchair, it is no replacement for the real thing, that I guarantee.
So screw the NFL. If you must watch, find local teams, go out and support THEM. I have gained MUCH pleasure going out to high school games. The 'being there' element adds much.
Or find a jeep to fix up, spend your time in that, with the eventual reward of overlanding and camping as an additional reward... Clean out the garage and fill it with tools, and learn cabinetry, mechanics, or whatever.
Or more than anything, the HUNT. Battle and Hunt are nearly the same thing, and are an inherent and instinctive thing in any man. Even if you are only hunting with your camera... Or battling with your buddies on a sandlot... THAT is the game. and the game is in the doing.
