EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Officials at Fort Bliss said the soldier who was injured in a shooting on post on Tuesday is a 20-year-old Hispanic male who arrived at Fort Bliss three weeks ago.

The soldier is a U.S. Army active duty infantryman who has been in the Army for nine months. He is at a local hospital and is listed in stable condition.

Lt. Col. Allie Payne, spokeswoman for the 1st Armored Division, said they are not sure of the motive or what happened prior to the disturbance call, but said the soldier called a ride-share company for a ride off post prior to the incident. When the driver arrived, the soldier was behaving erratically. Feeling unsafe, the driver asked a bystander to call military police, prompting the incident.
