Chicago police arrested more than 100 people as looting and riots spread through the city’s downtown retail corridors overnight, CPD Supt. David Brown said this morning. The uprising was sparked by incorrect information about a police-involved shooting in the Englewood neighborhood on Sunday, Brown said.
Two people, including a store security guard, were shot during today’s riots. Another gunman shot at police in the Loop, too. Those officers returned fire, but the gunman escaped, Brown said.
Reflecting on the overnight crime wave and the recent shootings and attempted shootings of nine cops, Brown said, “what we are seeing is violence against police.â€
