Funeral Songs
« on: August 03, 2020, 02:15:39 pm »
Any suggestions for good funeral songs?

I am leaning heavily towards Queens "Fat Bottomed Girls",but am open to suggestions.

Funerals are gruesome enough unless there are "lucky winners" there waiting to cash in,which will NOT be the situation in MY case because I am leaving every dime to charity,so I figure "Why not lighten it up a bit and give my friends one last laugh?"

BTW,NO,I am NOT making an announcement. Or don't think I am,anyhow. Just trying to be prepared and get it all in writing.

I know a few years ago Coldplay’s “Vida La Vida” was all the rage because it was played at Steve Jobs’ funeral.

I would advice against “Eleanor Rigby”

I am a big fan of an Irish wake. Throw a party and raise a glass. Screw funeral music.

I always wanted Benny Goodman's "Sing Sing Sing" to be played at my funeral. Then I decided I don't want a funeral.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

You always loved a good Hank Williams Sr. song....

Otherwise, I would probable just leave it for the family to decide... a funeral is for them anyway. Unless you're a politician (for show).... Now days odds are you can't even have a funeral in most states unless you are again a politician.

Time for Goodbyes/forgiveness are gone....

@mountaineer

GREAT song,and it would be a LOT of fun to watch people at a funeral trying to NOT break into a dance!

You may have just picked my winner.

Who doesn't?

I'm looking for upbeat,happy music,though. Not "music to slash your wrists by".

I have no family other than a half-brother in Ca I have only met twice,and my "brothers" in Special Forces who WILL be there in the form of an honor guard from the 5th Special Forces Group.

I MIGHT have an adult daughter,but don't know for sure. All depends on what kind of mood my ex is in that particular day.

@mountaineer

BTW,did you know it was written by Louie Prima? I was a BIG fan of he and Keely Smith back in the early 50's when I was in elementary school. They performed a lot on the Ed Sullivan Show,and we watched it every Saturday night.

I couldn't quite put my finger on it,but there was something about Keely Smith that really appealed to me.
