Marines have no qualified women leading infantry platoons, making push to recruit more
August 6, 2020
The US Marine Corps only has no female officers leading an Infantry platoon- and some within the organization want that to change.
Despite the fact that women have been allowed to attempt the Infantry Officer Course since 2012 and only two have been able to graduate, the USMC is pushing to recruit more female officers -primarily company-grade officers- into the fold.
Putting out a service-wide message this week, the move aligns with the vision of Marine Commandant General David Berger, who has been considered by many in the Corps to be considerably more progressive-minded than his predecessors.
