GOP Stimulus Package: Schools Will Have To Reopen To Receive $45 Billion In Aid
Senate Republicans unveiled their long-awaited stimulus proposal, the HEALS Act, on Monday night, with $105 billion earmarked for the Department of Education—and specifically tying about $45 billion to reopening elementary and secondary schools, likely setting up a showdown over the safety of doing so as coronavirus spikes across the country.
The education provision of the GOP proposal was spearheaded by Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Miss., who posted an outline to his official website on Monday night.
Out of the $105 billion proposed for the Department of Education, $70 billion would be allocated to elementary and secondary schools.
