An arson attack that destroyed a 117-year-old church in downtown Portland, Oregon, this week has become a symbol of disorder in the city.

Cameron David Storer, a trans woman also known as “Nicolette Fait,” was arrested following an investigation by the Portland Fire & Rescue Fire Investigations Unit. The 27-year-old is charged with two counts of first-degree arson, one count of second-degree arson, and two counts of second-degree burglary — all felonies.

According to prosecutors, Storer walked into the Multnomah County Detention Center and confessed to setting the church on fire using a lighter. ...

On Tuesday, police in Portland, Oregon arrested 27-year-old Christopher Luchini in connection with a series of stranger assaults in the city's Central Eastside District.

Luchini, a radical far-left activist with ties to a legal group that defends Antifa members, allegedly slashed at least four people with an edged weapon, three of whom sustained injuries and had to go to the hospital.

According to the Portland Police Bureau, the incidents took place between January 12 and February 7, 2023, in the area of Southeast 10th Avenue and Southeast Belmont Street. Officers have been led to believe that Luchini was "primarily targeting women," and that there were likely more victims that had not yet come forward.

Luchini was arrested while at work at a local grocery store, and a search of his home uncovered evidence that tied him to the assaults in question. He was taken to the Multnomah County Detention Center and charged with three counts of second-degree assault, second-degree attempted assault, and four counts of unlawful use of a weapon.  ...

A Portland Fred Meyer grocery store has fired a black security guard after white Antifa members complained, accusing him of being a Proud Boy and a "white supremacist."

On March 3, self-proclaimed "Antifa scum" and "cop hater" Melissa Lewis, who was recently convicted for slashing up a Portland Police vehicle, shared a complaint made by Antifa riot arrestee Dustin B. Ferreira against 28-year-old security guard Andrew Duncomb, tagging Fred Meyer on Twitter.  ...

"Are you now telling me that as an adult disabled by white violence, that I now also need to walk past a violent white supremacist to pick up my life-saving medications at Fred Meyer Pharmacy?" wrote user "@HoboJo21504985." Give me a f— break. Do better!"

Woke pizza chain Hotlips is closing three of its five Portland stores. The company claimed the latest closures were also due to the pandemic, as well as "labor and economic stresses."

The family-owned business established in 1984 announced Monday that it had shuttered its Civic Stadium, Hollywood, and Killingsworth locations. Dozens of workers will be laid off. Crime has been an increasingly difficult factor for Portland businesses to overcome.

The brand’s central kitchen at Hawthorne headquarters and the Pearl location at Northwest 9th Avenue are still open. Hotlips closed its location near Portland State University in 2020 due to the pandemic.

Hotlips was known not just for its pizza, local ingredients and fruit sodas, but also for supporting radical causes. On social media platforms the chain called for supporting and donating to the Southern Poverty Law Center, BLM, the American Civil Liberties Union and the Oregon Justice Reform Center, a Portland based legal group that represents Antifa. ...

A 32-year-old Portland man was arrested on Monday after allegedly using a rock to smash up a downtown business and then later taking a hostage.

Portland Police say that David Read Haywood Everding fled the scene of the vandalism attack before being found later in the day in another part of downtown. He ran into an office building near Southwest 5th Avenue and Southwest Oak Street where he took a hostage, police say. 

“Once inside, the suspect took hold of a security guard and used the guard as a shield to avoid being arrested,” police said in a statement. The hostage was eventually released unharmed before Everding was arrested.

Everding was charged with felony second-degree kidnapping, felony coercion, felony first-degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest, harassment and escape. On April 4, the day after the incident, the resisting arrest charge was dropped by district attorney Mike Schmidt’s office.

Everding is a University of Oregon alumnus and leftist protester who was at the June 2018 occupation of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement field office by far-left extremists and Antifa. The 38-day siege forced federal employees to evacuate as both Mayor Ted Wheeler and the Portland Police denied the office’s pleas for law enforcement assistance. ...

Moses Jacob Lopez, who presents as a woman and appears to have addresses in both Portland and Coos Bay, Ore., has been charged with second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon. The deceased victim, who has not been named, was identified by Radio City Cab as one of its veteran drivers. Lopez allegedly stabbed him to death during a taxi ride.

Days before the brutal murder stabbing in southeast Portland, the 30-year-old allegedly threatened another person with a weapon but was quickly released without bail. On April 3, Lopez was charged with two felony counts of unlawful use of weapon and two counts of menacing in Coos County, Ore. After missing a court hearing on April 6, a warrant was issued for her arrest—three days before she allegedly went on to commit murder.  ...

Lopez’s social media posts suggest she began transitioning around 2018 or 2019. She previously identified as a gay male. In a 2015 Facebook post, she wrote: “At times I wish I was a woman rather then [sic] a feminen [sic] gay man just so I could deck a basic bitch in the face…so annoying.” ...

Homeless people have erected a ramshackle encampment on a no man’s land across from the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon — creating an eyesore for the nearby upscale enclave’s residents who don’t know where to turn to for help evicting them.

Nearby residents Larry Purtle and Ric Scaramella told KOIN they have complained to the city up to 40 times about the dwellings, which have sprouted across from their condo over the past six years.

The couple stressed that the rickety cabins are “not tents, these are structures” — featuring doors, windows and even solar panels — marring the views from the upscale homes.

The men said they are worried about possible pollution entering the river from the shacks, which are isolated by the adjacent Union Pacific rail yard.

But they also said they are worried for the residents, who lack city services.

Yet another small business in downtown Portland, Oregon has succumbed impacts of the city's rampant crime. Coava Coffee Roasters announced on Monday that it will be permanently closing the doors of its SW Jefferson Street location on April 13.

In an emotional statement, the cafe explained that while their other locations will remain open, downtown Portland had simply become too dangerous to continue operating there.

"We have decided to permanently close our downtown Portland cafe with the last full day of operation being this Thursday, April 13," they wrote on Instagram, explaining that "the team members at this cafe have been on the front line enduring extreme violence and criminal activity on an almost daily basis for the last few years– crime and violence that is only increasing in frequency and severity."

The cafe noted that staff and customers experienced everything from "theft, to physical displays of violence, threats of harm, break-ins, window smashing, and repeated traumatic in-cafe incidents." ...

Maine's largest city is seeking donations to help mitigate the migrant surge after it reopened its historic basketball arena, the Portland Exposition Building, to house hundreds of asylum seekers.

But some residents are not happy with the city's action to overextend its already-limited housing resources as homeless Americans continue to line the streets.

Portland activist Richard Ward suggested Wednesday the municipal priorities may be upside down after claiming the city gave vagrants sleeping bags and tents while migrants were housed in the Expo Center.

"Last year they told the people that were Mainers, Americans that were homeless – they gave them tents and sleeping bags and they kind of did the same thing," Ward told "Fox & Friends First." "The Expo Center was opened up for asylum seekers and then Americans that were homeless were given tents and sleeping bags."

Ward agreed that the city "essentially" told Americans to fend for themselves as officials placed migrants seeking asylum in shelters with access to personal necessities.
