The original idea behind Trump's tweeting was to disseminate the real news, which Trump claimed he could not get out via the usual news outlets. But as far as I can tell, most of his tweets consist of bashing his enemies (real or imagined), whining and complaining about the Democrats, the polls, some news guy who was mean to him, etc., spreading rumors, gossip and conspiracy theories, getting involved in controversies and problems that are none of his business, and so on. I don't see much in his tweets that qualifies as news. It's not just the retweets which "get him into trouble," as he put it; it's his own original tweets.
The White House has its own Twitter account. Any news to be disseminated should come from that account. He has a communications team to put out that information. They know how to communicate clearly and would know what is important to get out to the public. Why doesn't Trump let them do their job? Surely, as president, he has better things to do. Or during his leisure time, he could put the phone down and find something else to do. Like maybe do something fun with his wife and young son? Or maybe just get a good night sleep.
Our electronic devices, the internet and social media are wonderful, but using them to excess can actually lead to an unhealthy addiction. No, I'm not a mental health expert, but I have experienced that addiction in my own life. I have to make a conscious effort to shut off the devices and do something else. Maybe it's time this president does the same.
