Chicago Fraternal Order Of Police President Begs Trump For Help. Mayor Is “A Failure”

I was going to start this article by providing yet another roundup of the horrific number of shootings in Chicago between Friday and yesterday, but tragically, at this point, that’s just pretty much another day at the office for the Windy City. Support from City Hall for the embattled police is thin at best and things have been spiraling further out of control. All of this has led the President of the local Fraternal Order of Police to sound the alarm and go over Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s head. He’s asked the President to send in the troops and help save them, calling the Mayor a “complete failure.” (CBS Chicago)

Chicago Fraternal Order of Police President John Catanzara Jr. issued a letter to President Donald Trump on Saturday, asking for help from the federal government to fight “chaos” in Chicago and calling Mayor Lori Lightfoot a “complete failure.”

The letter was posted on the FOP Lodge 7 Facebook page on Saturday, with a note that it would “get to President Trump’s desk one way or another.”

In the letter, Catanzara wrote: “I am certain you are aware of the chaos currently affecting our city on a regular basis now. I am writing to formally ask you for help from the federal government. Mayor Lightfoot has proved to be a complete failure who is either unwilling or unable to maintain law and order here.”

I think "unwilling" is more accurate, plus or minus a strong TDS element.

CHICAGO, IL– On July 17th, in Grant Park, another peaceful protest was hijacked by violence. According to officials, “vigilantes” planned an “ambush” against Chicago Police Officers, which led to violence among activists and police.

According to reports, on July 20th, the Chicago Police Department said that it looks like organizers of the protest knew there was planned violence. However, organizers of the protest are claiming that those allegations are false.

The Chicago Police Department released a video which shows people at the protest dressed in black, forming a phalanx with umbrellas, and then throwing harmful items at officers. ...

Among the activists, an 18-year-old had her tooth knocked out during the chaos. The video clips that the police have released from throughout the protest, show that the protest turned in a riot as people clearly hid behind umbrellas and banners.

Protesters used these umbrellas and banners to change into black clothing, form a wall, and eventually march into officers that were positioned around the Columbus statues. Police also said that the people in black clothing used PVC pipe that had been sharpened to a point, and jabbed them at officers. ...

Chicago police have not been allowed to do their jobs -- this started even before the current mayor, but now it has become worse.  It's time for the feds to step in and restore order.

I think the emasculation of CPD started with a consent degree under Obama (earlier?). But Lightfoot has made it clear she regards CPD as enemies rather than enforcers of the law.

Chicago PD Organization Leader Claims Mayor Lightfoot Is "Childish" And "Pathetic"

 

Chicago has been in a state of lawlessness for a while now and Mayor Lightfoot refused to ask for help. It was so bad there that Chicago Fraternal Order of Police President, John Catanzara, took it upon himself to send a letter to the president asking for help. Lightfoot was of course furious as she doesn't want the president's help regardless of what her constituent's needs are. Catanzara claims she was just being childish and pathetic.

"During a conversation with Ingraham, Catanzara called the Chicago mayor "unhinged" and said that her refusal to request federal assistance from the Trump administration was irresponsible. Catanzara himself wrote a letter to Trump requesting federal assistance amid the never-ending crime wave sweeping the city.

Lightfoot has previously said that any federal intervention would cause "chaos" and "lawlessness."
