Asheville city council approves reparations plan as Providence explores idea

Ivan Pereira   |   July 16, 2020, 9:16 AM

Leaders in Asheville, North Carolina, have taken a historic step to repair centuries of racial prejudice by unanimously voting to provide reparations.

The Asheville City Council voted 7-0 on a resolution Tuesday night that formally apologized to its Black residents for the city's role in slavery, discriminatory housing practices, and other racist policies throughout its history.

The measure also calls for a plan to provide reparations to its Black residents in the form of investments in their community such as "increasing minority home ownership," "increasing minority business ownership and career opportunities," and "strategies to grow equity and generational wealth," according to the resolution.

The simplest path towards growing equity and generational wealth is to end the blatantly racist Social Security program.  Not seeing any Dems willing to jump on board with that though.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

"This process begins and is perpetual, repeating this process over and over again," Young, who is Black, said in the statement. "There is no completion box to check off."

A perpetual class of victimhood which will require continuous reparations for eternity.

"Their community"?  What the heck does that mean?  Why do Democrats continually segregate based on race instead of acknowledging African-Americans as being part of OUR community?

In other words, they surrendered to the thugs in order to get re-elected so THEY can continue to steal money from the taxpayers before all the taxpayers leave town.

Can't wait for the Cherokees to show up and demand THEIR "fair share of the take" from BOTH the whites and the blacks. After all,all the city welfare bennies and other payouts in the 20th Century SHOULD have gone to the Cherokees instead of the blacks, and the blacks need to pay back the money they stole from the Cherokee.

This is what happens when enough drug addicts move from San Francisco to the NC mountains.  There were only 502 residents in Asheville in 1860, not many of them slaves.  I don't know what the city did to the blacks after that point, but considering the numbers, it amounted to jack squat.

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.

Makes you wonder how many have loaded their Escalades and are headed that way already.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
