Top military officer labels Confederacy as treasonous as Pentagon takes ‘hard look’ at rebel ties
Alex Horton  1 hr ago

The military’s top officer on Thursday described Confederate leaders as traitors and said he is taking a “hard look” at renaming 10 Army installations that honor them, despite President Trump’s opposition to any changes.

“The Confederacy, the American Civil War was fought, and it was an act of rebellion,” the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Mark A. Milley, told members of the House Armed Services Committee. “It was an act of treason at the time against the Union, against the Stars and Stripes, against the U.S. Constitution, and those officers turned their back on their oath.”

The Army is now about 20 percent black, he said.

“For those young soldiers that go onto a base — a Fort Hood, a Fort Bragg or a fort wherever named after a Confederate general — they can be reminded that that general fought for the institution of slavery that may have enslaved one of their ancestors,” he said.

Last month, Trump rejected calls to rename installations after Defense Secretary Mark T. Esper signaled a willingness to do so, saying his administration “will not even consider” that plan.

Milley stopped short of offering a policy prescription for how to handle the installation names, which has become a flash point at the Pentagon, as the nation grapples with the history of racism in the wake of George Floyd’s death at the hands of police in May.

Alexander Acosta Labor Secretary resigned under pressure concerning his "sweetheart deal" with Jeffrey Epstein.  He was under consideration for AG after Sessions was removed, but was forced to resign instead.

Yes, dear!  Trump chose from what was available after the Obama destruction of the General Staff Corp.

Another example of applying today's sensitivities to yesterday's issues. Federalism, opposed to nationalism, was taken much more seriously in 1860 than it is now.

It's a good thing we have these statesmen to tell us what prior generations didn't know.  Renaming army bases does seem to be the proper response to the recent insurrection.  I now am confident that our defense budget is being wisely administered.

Between esper and milley it appears that our military colleges no longer teach history...

Milley is a graduate of Princeton and Columbia, and is a native of Massachusetts.

I sincerely doubt he harbored these feelings about the Confederacy when he was moving up the ranks.

He definitely needs to be sent off to civilian life.

To be fair, anyone in the Confederacy WAS a traitor and a rebel. So what the South did WAS treason...and that applies to all who served in the southern military forces. That's a simple historical fact. For myself, I'm fine with changing the names of Federal bases named after Confederate figures...as long as it is done in a cerebral, democratic and respectful fashion and not via mob rule.

The problem with dealing with the Leftist mob and Marxist groups like BLM is that...on a few rare points...their complaints and concerns are valid. We SHOULDN'T be naming bases after traitors to the Republic and we as a nation should not have honored many of these figures with public statues. So, as reasonable people we should fix that "statue" mistake...which is an anachronistic remnant of a time in this country when open racism WAS tolerated. In fixing that genuine wrong, we take away any substantive argument these wacko groups have...and all that's left to them is the pure crazy that really embodies their goals and methods.

That said, these statues and monuments are historical icons that should be put in museums and other venues for historical contemplation. This should be done in respectful and rational way...and keep in mind...I'm ONLY referring to Confederate monuments. The madness that compels these fools to tear down Revolutionary era monuments is beyond sane comprehension.

Some are under the delusion that the Pentagon is a bastion of military principles and thinking.
Yet nothing could be further from the truth, as it is little more than another DC Institution
loaded w/political flunkies, both in uniform as well as civilians.
Our performance on the battlefield since WW 2 is mute testament to that cold reality.
Prior to the Civil War, the South was the bastion of States Rights, a founding principle ingrained
in its citizens which included it's officers who, by the way, were graduates of West Point.
These Officers swore alliance to the values and virtues the South represented, and most
emphatically were not traitors.

This turd needs to research more, and find out that congress legislated in a bipartisan and conciliatory manner, twice with full military honors for confederate soldiers.  In fact, U.S. sanctioned markers were given to graves of these soldiers.

If he wants to keep stoking the fires and anger of this revisionist unnecessary crap, keep adding a few degrees to the pressure boiler.

Wholly untrue. Secession means withdrawn... No longer united, and under different authority. There ain't a damn thing traitorous in that.

I will assure you that not a single state would have ratified the Constitution had the not known for sure that they had the right to withdraw from the union whenever that union failed to serve them any longer and I defy anyone to show me a word or phrase in that constitution which is contrary to that statement.

Geez, not this shit again.

So in your convoluted SJW like opinion, all our founding fathers who rebeled 1775-1783 are the same as traitors?  How many times to I have to say here, many including my ancestors did not own slaves.  So Mr. M....  what is a citizen to do, when an invading force attacks destroying his land, crops, livestock, and  livelyhoods etc.  Those traitors in your eyes? Were they not supposed to defend themselves?   Because if you want to PM me, I will give you countless accounts of where Union forces indiscrimantly scorched earth everyone in their path, no matter their zeal for the cause.  So give it a rest.  Being a traitor, is all a matter of perspective.  And in fact, if the Socialist tsumani takes effect as bad a we think we it might.  YOU...  will be one in their eyes as a conservative.

The problem with dealing with the Leftist mob and Marxist groups like BLM is that...on a few rare points...their complaints and concerns are valid.

Quadruple Bullshit.  BLM is nothing but race baiting leftist organization whose goal is 100% to change this country into a socialist state.  If you think BLM has any redeeming value or qualities,  I sadly feel sorry for you, as you have been seriously duped.

We SHOULDN'T be naming bases after traitors to the Republic and we as a nation should not have honored many of these figures with public statues. Here is where I normally quote Ron White.....   but. I won't.  You have basically given quarter to those "w(h)acko". groups.  You have given them an inch, thinking at some magic point and time they will be satisfied, only to wake up in wonder how they enacted   their SJW scorched earth agenda on American values.  I really hoped you were smarter than that.

That said, these statues and monuments are historical icons that should be put in museums and other venues for historical contemplation. This should be done in respectful and rational way...and keep in mind...I'm ONLY referring to Confederate monuments. Your contemplation is my hertiage and ancestors who spilled blood bravely and valiantly on the fields of Shiloh and Wilson's Creek.  I just hope I live long enough to snicker when the shoe is on your foot.  Because believe me....  The revisionism is a runway train, and not stopping just becuase you want it to.

Never in a 100 years would I expect anyone at TBR to give BLM any credibility or sympathy.  Forgot to ask about his thought's about their allies Antifa.

Without a doubt contracts are not forever. And certainly not when they are broken. When they are broken the signators have a natural right to a quit claim. That is the nature of sovereignty, be it individual or otherwise.

Although the federal government can, in no possible view, be considered as a party to a compact made anterior to its existence, and by which it was, in fact, created; yet as the creature of that compact, it must be bound by it, to its creators, the several states in the union, and the citizens thereof. Having no existence but under the constitution, nor any rights, but such as that instrument confers; and those very rights being in fact duties; it can possess no legitimate power, but such, as is absolutely necessary for the performance of a duty, prescribed and enjoined by the constitution. Its duties, then, become the exact measure of its powers; and wherever it exerts a power for any other purpose, than the performance of a duty prescribed by the constitution, it transgresses its proper limits, and violates the public trust. Its duties, being moreover imposed for the general benefit and security of the several states, in their politic character; and of the people, both in their sovereign, and individual capacity, if these objects be not obtained, the government will not answer the end of its creation: it is therefore bound to the several states, respectively, and to every citizen thereof, for the due execution of those duties. And the observance of this obligation is enforced, by the solemn sanction of an oath, from all who administer the government.

The constitution of the United States, then being that instrument by which the federal government hath been created; its powers defined, and limited; and the duties, and functions of its several departments prescribed; the government, thus established, may be pronounced to be a confederate republic, composed of several independent, and sovereign democratic states, united for their common defence, and security against foreign nations, and for the purposes of harmony, and mutual intercourse between each other; each state retaining an entire liberty of exercising, as it thinks proper, all those parts of its sovereignty, which are not mentioned in the constitution, or act of union, as parts that ought to be exercised in common. It is the supreme law of the land, and as such binding upon the federal government; the several states; and finally upon all the citizens of the United States.... It can not be controlled, or altered without the express consent of the body politic of three fourths of the states in the union, or, of the people, of an equal number of the states. To prevent the necessity of an immediate appeal to the latter, a method is pointed out, by which amendments may be proposed and ratified by the concurrent act of two thirds of both houses of congress, and three fourths of the state legislatures: but if congress should neglect to propose amendments in this way, when they may be deemed necessary, the concurrent sense of two thirds of the state legislatures may enforce congress to call a convention, the amendments proposed by which, when ratified by the conventions of three fourths of the states, become valid, as a part of the constitution. In either mode, the assent of the body politic of the states, is necessary, either to complete, or to originate the measure

Their submission to its operation is voluntary: it’s councils, it’s engagements, it’s authority are theirs, modified, and united. Its sovereignty is an emanation from theirs, not a flame by which they have been consumed, nor a vortex in which they are swallowed up. Each is still a perfect state, still sovereign, still independent, and still capable, should the occasion require, to resume the exercise of its functions, as such, in the most unlimited extent."

These "officers" chose not to support the President when requested to help quell the riots, so who's definition of treason are we going to use.
As far as I know, the Pentagon was at least aware of the coup de ta undertaken by the obama administration and chose not to intervene, so who's definition of treason are we going to use?
