Trump says he wants more stimulus checks: ‘I support actually larger numbers than the Democrats’

resident Donald Trump on Wednesday said he’s in favor of providing another round of stimulus checks to Americans, as he discussed what could go in another coronavirus aid package that Washington is expected to deliver around the end of this month.

“I support it, but it has to be done properly,” Trump said when asked whether he wanted more direct payments to individuals. “I support actually larger numbers than the Democrats, but it has to be done properly. They had something where it gave you a disincentive to work last time.”

The president's remarks came during an interview with Fox Business Network that aired Wednesday. They echo June 10 comments from Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, who said the Trump administration would "seriously look at whether we want to do more direct money to stimulate the economy."

The Democratic-run House passed a $3 trillion coronavirus relief bill in May that would provide a second round of direct payments, at $1,200 per family member with a limit of $6,000 per household. The sweeping House measure championed by Speaker Nancy Pelosi was widely viewed as an opening offer in talks about another package with the Republican-controlled Senate and the Trump administration..........

President Trump on Wednesday said he was in support of another round of direct payments for individuals and that he wants the amount to be greater than what Democrats have proposed.

"I support it, but it has to be done properly. And I support larger numbers actually than the Democrats, but it's got to be done properly," Trump said on Fox Business.

The coronavirus legislation passed by House Democrats, known as the HEROES Act, includes a new round of $1,200 direct payments to individuals.

Trump also said on Wednesday that the March coronavirus relief legislation, known as the CARES Act, gave people a disincentive to work but that since it was still helping people with direct cash, he "was all for that." He said he wants "to create a very great incentive to work," though, in the next round of legislation.

"So, we're working on that, and I'm sure we'll all come together," Trump added.

The Democrats' coronavirus relief legislation, which passed the House in May, also provides $200 billion in “hazard pay” for those working in grocery stores, medical facilities, and other front-line jobs; $1 trillion in financial aid to state, local, municipal, and tribal governments; and an extension to January of the $600 in extra unemployment insurance benefits now provided to those who lost jobs in the pandemic.

That's the question that popped into my head.  Incentives perhaps for going back to work?  The end of this month the unemployment extended bonuses will stop and it will be interesting to see
 how many will become more motivated to find work.   

The additional concern in my mind is people are going to keep expecting a fed handout every time a hardship hits.  Granted people were forced out of their jobs due to COVID and gov't mandates, but enough is enough. 

Let's start looking at each state and making sure that people who applied for unemployment benefits received $$$ and were paid in full instead of launching another stimulus.
