What follows is going to be controversial.
The mods may even delete it.
So... America's "spirit" is broken by a (modern) "racial divide" that is tearing us apart...?
Let's break that down.
There IS a "racial divide", but it's no more modern than say, 1619 (to steal a date from the loathsome New York Times).
The people who were imported from Africa back then became the nascent "divide" that grew and continues to fester from that year right to this day. But...
It was ALWAYS there, there's nothing modern or recent about it, and it is not going to "go away", regardless of what politicians of any persuasion try to do about it.
It's just... there.
Because... it's natural for it to be there.
"The divide" will ALWAYS have to be managed and regulated and restrained because people... when left to their own designs and desires... will actively seek to separate themselves from others who they perceive are not "like" themselves.
This is as natural as "birds of a feather".
It is just "the way things are". No written law, no words on paper, are ever going to alter this.
Of course, particularly since the early 1960's, we've tried to force people to behave in a manner that runs against their nature.
Forced busing.
Quotas (Dr. Bakke ended that).
Affirmative Action.
Racial preferences (Sharon Taxman could have ended that, but she took their money instead and withdrew her case).
Sixty years, and what's changed?
After trillions spent for a "war on poverty", a cop makes a fatal error, and it's "war" all over again, in the streets.
What will it take to end...?
What will it take to placate them?
You know the answer as well as I do:
Nothing.
The more one side gives, the more the other side will demand.
So... why is our spirit broken?
It shouldn't be broken for lack of trying.
We've tried enough.
No more.
As I wrote this reply, I did so in a text editor and saved it with a name:
"The divide that can't be bridged".
And that's where we are.
There's little point in being upset because we finally realize that diversity IS NOT "our strength", but rather a scythe that sweeps to weaken and destroy us.
We were naive enough to swallow that lie, and now we're paying the price.
So... it's time to STOP "paying", and write off this phony social debt that others claim we owe them. "We" owe "them" nothing.
It's time to recognize our own "identity", and be unafraid by so doing.
It's time to acknowledge that our lives and culture matter, for ours is the culture that built the country.
No, aligncare.
You shouldn't be dispirited.
You should be angry.
