The Village People order Trump to stop playing ‘Macho Man’ and ‘YMCA’ at rallies

The IndependentJune 9, 2020, 3:05 AM PDT

The Village People have asked Donald Trump to stop playing their music at his rallies.

The disco group’s songs “Y.M.C.A.” and “Macho Man” have recently been heard playing at a series of events hosted by the US president.

In a statement posted on Facebook, The Village People frontman Victor Willis revealed he was prompted to take a stand after Trump seemingly threatened to shoot protesters in Minneapolis.

“If Trump orders the U.S. military to fire on his own citizens (on U.S. soil), Americans will rise up in such numbers outside of the White House that he might be forced out of office prior to the election. Don’t do it Mr. President!” Willis wrote.

“And I ask that you no longer use any of my music at your rallies especially ‘Y.M.C.A.’ and ‘Macho Man.’ Sorry, but I can no longer look the other way.”
Both Village People songs have been played at Trump’s public appearances for years, including, most recently, when he attended the launch of the SpaceX rocket with vice president Mike Pence.

Village People said their Macho Macho Man is a gay anthem.  I wonder why Trump is playing gay anthems anyway.

(1) Macho man played by a buncha gays?  What's macho about that?
(2) Disco sucks. ( I had a Tee-shirt in the '70's that proves that point)
(3) left wing turds can f themselves, and they probably already have.

3 Strikes, cut 'em loose Donald.

Do the "Village People" have the legal authority to do any more than demand the Trump (and others using their music) pay the appropriate royalties?
If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"? Is reality a Big Pharma Shill?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.

No. Their crap has been in the public domain for decades.

The songs were amusing in a kitsch way back in the 90's in the initial 70's nostalgia wave hit.

Victor Willis was kicked out of the Village People at their height for drug use. It's not "his" music, anyway; the producer wrote the songs and session men played them. He just sang what was in front of him.

QUESTION:

When a cool song by Queen, Elton John, Barry Manilow, Johnny Mathis comes on the radio, do you think of a "gay song?"

When a cool song, by Michael Jackson, Charley Pride, Darius Rucker, Prince comes on the radio, do you think of a "black song?"

The headline says the Village People "ordered" Trump to stop using their music.  But in the article itself  it says they are "asking" that he stop.  Makes me think that the Village People may not own their own music.  If so, it seems to me the one who could say no to using that music is whoever owns the rights to it.  That may be a publishing company or someone else.  I suppose the owner could terminate whatever agreement exists that allows the Trump campaign to use that music.  But if an agreement is in place and Trump is paying to use the VP music, I don't see how legally the group can prevent the use of their music in Trump's campaign.

I doubt anyone in the world even remembered who the Village People were until Trump started using their song. This isn't a cry of outrage from these schmucks, it's cry for publicity. And the only reason we are even seeing this article is because some comes through any and everything for something negative to Trump no matter how ridiculous.

Or a meme of how awful 70's disco was.

Oh I remember the Village People, but then again, I'm an old bag who lived through the disco era when they were popular.

And you're right about the publicity.  Celebs, both prominent and has-beens,  use every event to garner publicity.  All those "stars"  who commented about Mr. Floyd's death.  I doubt any of them really care about him or his loved ones.

Yeah I get it.  Wasn't much into disco in general myself back in the day, but it was good music for the aerobics classes I took back in the day.

Everyone knows the Village People are a gay group.  It wasn't me that called Macho Macho Man gay anthem.  It was the Village People.   I do think of gay when I hear YMCA.  We used to have this company picnic where the group of Lesbians would always break out with YMCA.  They are gay.  The songs are gay.  Trump is gay signaling.

Begs the Question:  Why would anyone want to play a shitty gay song sung by a shitty gay band at a campaign rally?
I'm missing something, I guess
No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.

Trump needs to go with some tear the throat open stuff and use songs like "Enter Sandman", "Thunderstruck" or something.

I probable have posted their songs in the 70s or 80s threads a few times. Probable the extended versions too. Nostalgia , and I think I dedicated the song to Frank (out of meanness). Frank either never saw it or had great refrain in not shooting me the bird. Lol.

I mostly see YMCA played at sporting events for a fun crowd activity.

Yeah, wouldn't know. the only sporting events I ever went to were my daughters fast pitch games and tournaments(her team too 4 place 14&under at nationals one year) and now my grandsons baseball and football games. Probably why it's so easy for me to boycott pro sports that pander to BLM and anti American socialists.

"Jogging in the morning, go, man, go
Workouts at the health spa, muscles glow
You can best believe that he's a macho man
Ready to get down with anyone he can"

"See the hair on my chest?
See my big, thick mustache?
Big, broad shoulders, yeah!"

Nope. No gayness there...

I never listened to the Village People when those songs were new, and wouldn't recognize them if I heard them today.

I quit listening to pop radio back in... well... never listened to it at all.
