On Wednesday night, after five days of at-times violent confrontations between police and thousands joining protests near the White House, a group of U.S. Army special operations soldiers for the first time fell into formation to face off with the angry crowd.

Many immediately noticed the arrowhead patches of the Army's Special Forces on the left sleeves of the unarmed, but baton-carrying Utah National Guard troops in multicam uniforms, who joined the security perimeter with a myriad of law enforcement officers and wondered why they were there -- and whether they should be there at all.

"I'm kind of horrified by seeing the junta-looking Guard guys around D.C. I hate the optics of it," retired Army Special Forces Col. Robert Wilson told ABC News Thursday.

If Imam Obama were still president, it would be considered wise idea.  It would show people shouldn't try rioting at the WH.

Well,to be fair,they were a NG unit,so as the adds say,"No real operators were harmed during the commission of this stupidity."

Still,they should have removed the patches and any other identifying insignia,such as CIB's and jump wings.

I have mentioned this here before,but for the people who didn't see it,SF troops were pretty much banned from riot control missions in the US during the VN War,when the Pentagram send some observers to FT.Bragg to monitor the "mock riots" that were being put in there in preparation for the "Days of Rage" protests to be held in DC.

By the end of the first day Womack Army hospital was full of injured soldiers who had been role playing as rioters,and the barracks in one basic training company had been set of fire by the basic trainees who joined the riots for real after being recruited by SF officers posing as anti-war protesters.

SF troops tend to be a tad aggressive as well as enthusiastic once the action begins .

IF "aggressive force" is needed to protect our President, then so be it.  IF "aggressive force" is need to calm the rioters, then so be it.  DO IT!  Get it done!

Those who object to the POTUS being protected - whether Obama or Trump - are simply expressing partisan hatred.

There was a lot of bluster from the BLM / Antifa rioters that they were going to take the WH last weekend, a million strong.

Good thing it didn't happen, or it would have triggered CW2.

Precisely. I believe it would have been the first enemy force to burn the White House (had they succeeded) since the British in 1814.

No matter, if the right people are targeted. It's the same model the VC and any insurgents have used, ever. Take out command, in the field take out the support. By their actions the key people expose themselves. The rest falls down.

Whether NG, Airborne or Special Forces, they weren't there and equipped for some imaginary "fair fight". They were there and equipped to "persuade" Rioter-Wannabes that the probable personal cost of rioting would be far more certain and greater than whatever satisfaction they might derive from rioting/looting.

That was a lesson learned by their grandparents in the 60's.

BTW,it won't be Special Forces. Special Forces are not conventional assault troops. If they are involved,it will be in identifying the leadership,and tracking them down and arresting them to hand over to the authorities if they are smart enough to surrender.
