Brian Jordan Bartels, a 20-year-old man who Pittsburgh police said is suspected of inciting violence during a protest, was escorted by his parents as he turned himself in Monday.



Local law enforcement were investigating the destruction of a police SUV when they received an anonymous tip from a co-worker at Amazon who recognized Bartels at the scene of the crime, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. The vehicle was set on fire after being tagged with spray paint Saturday, although police officers eventually arrived on horseback to disperse the rioters.

According to a criminal complaint and eyewitness accounts, a woman tried to stop Bartels from damaging the SUV, but he gave her the finger and proceeded to break the car’s windows.

Do most Americans feel the anger over Mr. Floyd is justified?  Of course.  Even Rush and Hannity say flatly it was murder.   But that doesn't justify looting and destruction aimed at innocents.

I'd prefer a jury with the actual facts to determine if it was murder or not. A knee to the neck behind the ears does not suffocate you. Nor does it cut off blood to the brain. At least not in a normal person. There's more to the story than what the video shows. More likely is heart failure due to poor health, drugs and fighting with the police exerting a lot of energy.

Failure to render aid maybe the most chargeable offence that could stick if the facts as reported are true.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) blasted New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and the city’s police department during his Tuesday press conference, saying they “did not do their job last night.”

The governor condemned the New York Police Department’s (NYPD) response to the protests over George Floyd’s death on the first night the city was under curfew on Monday, calling what happened “inexcusable.”

“The NYPD and the Mayor did not do their job last night,” he said, adding that, “It was a disgrace.”

“I believe the mayor underestimates the scope of the problem,” Cuomo continued. “I think he underestimates the duration of the problem. And I don’t think they’ve used enough police to address the situation because it’s inarguable ... that it was not addressed last night.”

Cuomo is the Governor of the State of New York.  Cuomo is the Commander-in-Chief of the New York National Guard.  If Cuomo is not willing to lead here, then he needs to resign.

Here in Georgia, the Republican Governor mobilized 1,500 National Guard troops on Saturday, and doubled that number on Sunday.  He directly coordinated with the Democrat mayor to implement plans and strategies, coordinating tactics with Atlanta Police, Georgia State Patrol, Cobb County SWAT, Dunwoody Police, Fulton, Dekalb, and Gwinnett County Police, and the Georgia National Guard, that proved to be extremely effective at minimizing property damage.  Yet in New York, a Democrat Governor can't work with a Democrat Mayor to implement a plan?

Cuomo and DeBlasio should both resign.  They each lack the capacity for leadership.

Somebody’s got to be thrown into the angry volcano. Looks like it’ll be at least one or all four of the police officers involved. As if cops don’t have a tough enough job.

There will be unintended consequences of course. Fewer good people will be willing to join the police force, more now in uniform will be holding back, unwilling to risk encounters with people of color [sic] and more cops who will die because of that hesitation...JMHO.

Most Americans believe protesters justified in anger over killing of George Floyd

The majority of Americans say that the anger expressed by protesters over the police killing of George Floyd is justified, a new Monmouth polls finds.

In the poll released Tuesday, 57 percent of respondents said that the anger over Floyd's killing is justified, 21 percent said that it was partially justified and 18 percent said it wasn't justified at all.

Fifty-four percent of Americans said that the actions taken by demonstrators are either somewhat or fully justified, compared to 38 percent who said that the actions weren't justified at all.

Speaking of [Brand], my wife recently participated remotely in a group diversity call at her work.  The topic was to listen viewpoints from people of other ethnic backgrounds about their life experiences so that others could understand their feelings, gain a grasp on why these current protests are taking place, and embrace the need for diversity of our work environment.  Openness and tolerance were encouraged, freeing people to share their experiences without repercussions.

Five minutes into the call, my wife realized that if she spoke openly of her life experiences, she would be fired on the spot.   Because in this ocean of tolerance that was being advertised, there was an underlying intolerance of one characteristic that was so extreme - Conservatism.  If anyone in her company got wind that she voted for Trump in 2016, then she would be fired on the spot.

My So-Cal beach town, although prominently in the news, didn't suffer damage.

It is widely reported volunteers helped owners board up stores, then prepared to stand guard all night.

Armed of course with   newspapers rolled up and strong suggestions to please go away.

It worked.

IMO from whaat I've seen this is generational. Your taxes at work high school and college education. free college tuition. forgive the student loans.

America is bad. tear it down. legalize drugs. get out of jail early. citations only for felony theft.

Got a lot of likes. This kid is from what might be called a working class neighborhood of the Pittsburgh area. He doesn't know diddly squat about oppression or much of anything. His parents looked mortified.
