World War II Veteran honored on his 98th Birthday

SURFSIDE BEACH, S.C.(WTGS) — A Surfside Beach man was honored with a special golf cart parade for his 98th birthday on Wednesday.

Clarence Tompkins, US Army 4th Infantry Division, is a World War II veteran who stormed the beaches of Normandy on d-day.

"I’ve lived 90 something years of being a playboy, my wife passed away in 2000. I’ve lived by myself for 20 years -- belong to two ballroom dance clubs and other military clubs," said Tompkins, when asked about the secret to a long life.
