Several articles posted today re attacks on police officers. Thanks, ranger.
Is it any wonder that some of them, even a small cohort, are over-reacting or standing by while fellow officers do so...?
ranger's original point in his flurry of similar posts was that the MSM were not covering these instances of officers being shot. As I posted in the other 4 (IIRC) threads, that is not true. Those 4, and this shooting, got local and national coverage.
A somewhat valid point - which ranger did not make - would be that these shootings have not gotten coverage proportional to the George Floyd killing, but even that ignores important context. Police work is intrinsically dangerous, and much as any sane person would wish it were not true, officers get shot by criminals with some degree of frequency. OTOH, the George Floyd killing is rather unique - Floyd was cuffed, on the ground, not fighting, with several officers around him, but Officer Chauvin kept his knee - on which most of his weight was applied - on Floyd's neck for over 5 minutes. The
only thing this accomplished was to
slowly suffocate George Floyd. IOW, race and politics aside, the George Floyd story is "Man Bites Dog", and an officer being shot is "Dog Bites Man".
